The Olympics are over, but school has just begun.

When the pandemic started and classrooms closed, millions of students lost access to their only guaranteed meals. Now that students are back, it's more important than ever to ensure there are free children around the nation!

Food + nutrition is critical to the success, health and performance of all young people and young athletes. It's up to us to make free school meals for every K-12 student in the U.S. a reality.

Visit schoollunchforall.org for resources + join the movement!

School meals are just as important to students' academic success as textbooks or transportation. Students who are in class hungry because they’re unable to participate in school meals are missing out on the opportunity to learn.

This is why we must ensure every young person in the U.S. has access to free school meals all year around. To learn more about the resources available, check out schoollunchforall.org.

Until 2022, all k-12 students will have access to free school meals, no matter what.

🍎No proof of legal status required.
🍎No applications needed.
🍎No one will be turned away.

We’re working to make this the norm for every school year!

This is HUGE! Students in California now have access to universal school meals year around!

We're excited for this news and we will keep working to make sure every state offers free children.

We did it! 🎉 🎉 🎉 California makes history as the first state to adopt free !

We applaud Gavin Newsom and the State Legislature, especially State Senator Nancy Skinner Assemblymember Kevin McCarty Assemblymember Luz Rivas for championing for our students.

A heartfelt thank you to our community of school nutrition professionals, CSEA, SEIU, the 200 orgs in the coalition, and our fellow co-sponsors the California Association of Food Banks, NextGen California, TomKat Ranch, and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond for your advocacy on behalf of CA kids!

Thank you to the school lunch hero’s who make sure all k-12 students are fed!

Providing universal school meals to young people + supporting families has never been more important.

16/10/2020

Regardless of how students are learning after the 2020-21 term, schools must continue to provide free lunch.🍊🥙

Having daily, guaranteed meals is a basic human right + that's why free is a priority.

14/10/2020

This is the news we like to see!🎉

Now let's take it a step further and make sure there's free permanently!

🚨🚨🚨 We’re extending flexibilities to allow free meals to continue to be available to all children throughout June 30, 2021. This unprecedented move is part of USDA’s unwavering commitment to ensuring all children across America have access to nutritious food as the nation recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. http://ow.ly/VHiV50BOEba

Virtual school means many more meals at home. With 1 in 10 Americans facing major food shortages during this pandemic, the pressure to provide is even heavier.

Free not only supports families, it ensures every k-12 child is fed daily.

This is the last week that the USDA has the power to extend school meal waivers + programs until the end of the 20-21 school year. Without this extension, families + students will lose the only form of guaranteed support in this space.

Tag U.S. Department of Agriculture and demand free !

While the U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended meal waivers + programs through 12/31, they have the power to guarantee school meal access for K-12 students until the end of the 2021 school term.

With food insecurity levels rising across the country, there's no time to waste. Tag U.S. Department of Agriculture + let them know that we need free !

2020 has forced us to look closely at the issues plaguing our society. Among many things, making sure our children are fed is a top priority.

If you want free students, get registered to vote! The people we vote for will make the decisions that matter to us most.

The pandemic hasn't ended so why should assistance for families + students come to a close? USDA waivers have been extended through the end of the year but what about after that? Eventually, schools will begin charging for meals + tracking meal debt among kids who can’t pay.

k-12 kids is more important than ever!

k-12 students is more important than ever!

1 in 10 Americans don’t have enough food. The pandemic is making things worse Data is starting to catch up to the real-life fallout of dueling health and economic crises, and shows that households of color and those with less income are disproportionately affected so far.

14/09/2020

We're excited that free school meals for students have been extended until the end of 2020 but the fight isn't over! Until the end of this month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has the authority to do more and make sure students get free meals through the end of the 2020-21 school year.

We are calling on the USDA to be true leaders in this space and work towards making kids permanent! Tag U.S. Department of Agriculture + share!

Pandemic or not, virtually learning or not, completed forms or not, kids should be fed for free. 💯

Help ensure all K-12 students have access to free school meals by calling your senator at (202) 224-3121 + asking them to pass the Pandemic Child Hunger Prevention Act.

'Children Are Going Hungry': Why Schools Are Struggling To Feed Students School meals are the only meals some children get in a day. But during the pandemic, school feeding programs have been reaching fewer and fewer families.

Kids in grades K-12 are our future leaders and many of them are facing hunger.

Having daily, guaranteed meals is a basic human right. Make a priority and call your senator at (202) 224-3121 to make sure Congress passes the Pandemic Child Hunger Prevention Act.

When reading or hearing the term , what comes to mind?

A. The fact that many students rely on free lunch as their only guaranteed meal
B. Students + families can go into debt if school meal dues aren't paid off
C. Every k-12 student in the U.S. should be able to eat for free
D. All of the above

*Psssst...For us, the answer is D*

02/09/2020

Hungry minds cannot be fed on empty stomachs. With more than 1 in 5 kids living in food insecure households, school meals are often the only guaranteed meals.

That's why regardless of whether students are learning at home or in a classroom, they must have free school meals!

Timeline photos 01/09/2020

The first day of school is approaching + instead of planning new outfits, many parents are planning how to feed their kids.

It doesn't matter whether they are learning online or in an actual classroom, all k-12 students need free school meals.

#SchoolLunchForAll

For millions of students across the country, school-provided lunches are the only meals they are guaranteed each day. Even though 75% of all school lunches are provided for free or at a reduced price, many of these students are still unable to pay for those meals. Schools have to provide those students with food, but they don’t always have to do it free of charge — and when students can’t afford those meals, their families go into debt.

And while schools are mandated to provide those students with food, there’s no mandate to provide it free of charge. As a result, students across the country are being charged for meals they can’t afford and their families are going into debt.

School Lunch for All is a national campaign to ensure that school meals are provided, free of charge, to every K-12 student in America.

We believe that no student should go hungry at school and that no child or family should experience financial strain, public shame, or debt in exchange for those meals.
