Pakistan's Supreme Court has granted temporary relief to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, restraining police from arresting him until August 9 in connection with the murder of senior lawyer Abdul Razzaq Shar in Quetta. Khan's involvement is under scrutiny as he faces a subjudice petition related to the June shooting incident.

Abdul Razzaq Shar was gunned down by unidentified individuals on motorcycles while on his way to the Balochistan High Court on June 6. An FIR was filed against Khan and others based on the complaint of the deceased lawyer's son, Advocate Siraj Ahmed, charging him with murder and Anti-Terrorism Act violations.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Ataullah Tarar, held Imran Khan directly responsible for the murder, linking it to a treason case against Khan under Article 6 of the Constitution, which Shar was handling.

During the court proceedings, Khan complied with the directive to appear before the three-member bench. However, due to the absence of the complainant's lawyer, arguments could not be presented. The Balochistan advocate general requested Khan's appearance before the investigation officer, prompting the court to seek reasons for his involvement.

The court adjourned the hearing to August 9 at the complainant's request. Khan had previously sought to dismiss the FIR and obtain bail in the case, but the court rejected the plea, advising him to approach the Chief Justice for further proceedings.

A Lahore accountability court on Thursday acquitted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shehbaz and wife Nusrat Shehbaz in a Rs8 billion money laundering reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau. The verdict was announced by Judge Qamaruz Zaman, a written order of which is yet to be issued.

The court also acquitted all others accused in the case, with the exception of the prime minister’s daughter, Rabia Imran. A perpetual arrest warrant was issued for Imran, who has been declared an absconder. The court also issued instructions to unfreeze the properties of all of the acquitted individuals.

The CJP has adjourned the hearing till next week, saying that the date for the proceeding will be announced as per the availability of the judges.

On Monday, the bill was passed by a joint sitting of parliament with certain amendments, amid a noisy protest from PTI lawmakers.

In addition to CJP Umar Ata Bandial, the bench hearing the case comprises Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Ayesha A. Malik, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Shahid Waheed.

During the hearing today, the court issued notices to the political parties, the federal government, Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Awan, Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and other respondents in the case. The proceeding has been adjourned till next week.
