Because today is World Mental Health Day and it’s Thanksgiving weekend I think we should all say 3 things you love about yourself and 3 things you are thankful for!

Here’s mine

- I love my tattoos because they remind me of loved ones
- I love my humour, even if it’s dark humour sometimes
- I love how no matter what happens in my life I just keep going
- (bonus) I love that I love all things disney

- I’m thankful that I have not experienced any flair ups of MS since that first one
- I’m thankful for amazing friends and family that have been there for me during crazy times
- I’m thankful to be able to make lots of pretty things for others to enjoy

Thought I’d tell you guys a bit about myself!

TW: Lots of medical talk & covid

My name is Sam and I started Pretty & Timeless with my mom around the beginning of all the covid stuff. There are 3 people in our house that are immune compromised, including myself as of March 2020.

One week before everything shut down I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and high blood pressure at 20 years old. I was not sad about this I just wanted to figure out what the next steps would be. I like to think that I handled this situation very well, I use humour to cope with the problems as do many others

But I have had a unique medical experience that most likely do not. At 15 months old I had open heart surgery for a hole in my heart the size of a toonie. But it is not just me, my 2 siblings have rare lung diseases. That brings lots of other responsibilities for the entire family. Picture this, we got a late start to driving up to see family for the holidays, my little old brother pulled out his feeding tube. Dad tried to find a hospital so him and I could put the feeding tube back. I don’t know how much 12 year old kids or adults even, who could go with the flow like that. I think all of that craziness helped me when I got the full diagnosis of MS. The other thing that helped would have to be sports.

I know lots of kids play different sports but I only wanted to do baton. I was 5 when I attended a summer camp where baton was one of the classes. Because I loved it my mom was trying and trying to get classes near us. A little over 15 years, many provincial and national titles later I decided to start my own club, but covid had other plans and sadly ended that. And we are back to the present with Pretty & Timeless!
