We will subconsciously have chaos in our lives because it's familiar. Not comfortable. But familiar, until we heal our deeper wounds.

Loved this post from the month of November!! Do you want to effectively teach emotions to your students/clients/loved ones??? We need to start at the body signal level! Our body signals provide clues to our emotions. So if you skip over the body signals you are not providing the foundation needed for emotional understanding.

Remembering that working through a client's trauma means working with their response patterns is crucial to positive growth.

“You cannot rush the healing process. It takes approximately 20 years for the human brain to fully form and many years of careful guidance to help a child develop the social and emotional intelligence to navigate the complexities of adulthood. Our earliest years should prepare us for the inevitable challenges of life, such as working through conflicts with loved ones or coping with loss. However, when you have grown up with childhood trauma, you have to fill in the gaps left behind by neglect or abuse, and this takes time. I encourage you to recognize that reclaiming your life from childhood trauma requires a long-term commitment to yourself and to the healing process.”

Learning about fight, flight, fawn, and freeze can be helpful, but learning how these responses manifest in our particular bodies is where the magic really starts. When we understand how fight, flight, freeze, or fawn show up for us, we can develop an internal template to refer back to in moments where we are feeling a lot of (or beginning to shut down and feeling no emotion at all) that alerts us when it’s time take steps to soothe our and return to our window of tolerance.

No one has an innate ability to pause during a conflict and reflect “Gosh, I think I might be moving into a freeze response.” Instead, this realization tends to be something we recognize as we reflect on an experience later. Growing the capacity to check in with ourselves and notice, in the moment, when we are slipping into a response is one key to learning how to self-soothe, expand our , grow emotionally, and build .

That’s where my new comes in: it’s a tool specifically for helping us recognize when we are moving out of our window of tolerance (where we can listen, learn, and respond thoughtfully) and into a reaction state.

Like the Emotion Sensation Wheel, the Fight, Flight, & Freeze Embodied Wheel is a tool to prompt conversations and build awareness by showing how each of these responses *tends* to show up through physical sensations. It's not prescriptive- it's a conversation starter. It's meant to teach, to stir, and to prompt conversations that build awareness, connection, and experience through awareness. Hello and thank you for visiting my page. I am a therapist and have a private practice in the Sierra Vista, Arizona area. Originally from Los Angeles, I started working with teenagers as a Peer Support to help with matters relating to runaway and homeless, pregnant and parenting, GLBTQ, s*x trafficking and incarceration. I moved to Arizona in 2005 where my work branched out to school aged military children, child welfare, and complex needs children in the Arizona behavioral health delivery system. My work now includes helping adults in treating anxiety, depression, complex trauma, co-occurrences, and serious mental illness designations. Clinically, I practiced therapy in a community mental health outpatient setting using a culturally sensitive, strength based and individualized point of view. To meet the needs of rural communities, I have used a telehealth mode of delivery to include Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Yuma and Maricopa Counties. I continue to remain focused in my service to provide therapy to Arizona residents living in rural communities within my private practice.

To learn more about my services and also to read my Social Media policy please visit my website at: www.ryulcsw.com. I look forward to connecting with you soon.
