Amazing courage ❤️

9 June 1944, Jewish paratrooper Hannah Szenes crossed into Hungary after parachuting down into Yugoslavia on a mission to rescue the remaining Jews in Hungary.

Szenes, who had immigrated to Eretz Israel 5 years earlier had enlisted in the British army as a volunteer in 1943. She underwent parachute training and was one of three women who requested to parachute into occupied Europe in order to help save their Jewish brethren trapped in N**i occupied countries.

Reuven Dafni was with Hannah on her mission in to Yugoslavia, and recalls the mission: "A female paratrooper – the news spread like wildfire… there were female partisan fighters, but no paratroopers..."

After crossing the border in to Hungary, Szenes was caught in the possession of a transmitter. She was transferred to a prison in Szombathely, and then to the jail in Budapest, where she was subjected to horrific torture and threats on her mother's life, but she never revealed the radio codes.

Szenes was imprisoned for five months, after which she stool trial for treason in a military court, where she expressed her Jewish faith stridently and courageously.

On 7 November 1944, Hannah Szenes was executed by firing squad. She was 23 years old.
