2 months til Alan Broadbent and I release our new album, 'Quiet Is The Star' (27 March) and only 1 month until the first single, 'Let Me Whisper To Your Heart' (27 Feb).

To mark this little anniversary, I'm sharing a video of the unnamed title track of our first album, 'Songbook'.
This is 'Cherry Tree', inspired by a very moving photo essay I saw a few years ago of a photographer who had captured his parents through the years and seasons, in their front garden. In the last image, the father is alone. I envisaged my couple around a cherry tree that grows with them and bears witness to their friendship, love and eventually loss.

Simon Manfield's gentle, evocative artwork is showcased here as well as our quartet partners, Oli Hayhurst (bass) and Dave Ohm (drums). Production by Andrew Cleyndert.

This year Alan Broadbent and I committed to finish our book of songs which meant rounding off our collection with new ones and finishing off others that had been left behind. Somehow I missed one that Alan sent to me 3 years ago, describing it as a seasonal song. A global pandemic and all the emotions of missing family and loved ones, unsurprisingly turned out to be the perfect time to write the lyric which I finished a couple of months ago.

So here is our Xmas song: no snow, no mistletoe, no Santa and no religion, recorded remotely in our own homes across both sides of the Atlantic. Enormous thanks to Dave Ohm for such a great job producing. And to Lenny the cat for being the other audience member - that helped a lot!

The Last Goodbye: new lyric video.

This was the first song co-written by and me so will always hold a special place in our hearts. It opened the door to 32 more songs, 2 albums, several tours in Europe and the US and gigs at incredible venues including .

Originally the song was entitled 'The Long Goodbye' - a film noir nod - and written for . By coincidence when Alan suggested I try a lyric I was travelling to close up my dad's house for the last time. He had died the year before but selling it was a drawn out process, complicated by his living abroad. When we got there, the once beautiful garden was diminished, the pathway was torn and most poignantly his shoes were indeed, still by the front door.

The first of 3 big projects I'm determined to finish this year is done! Brand new website thanks to an initial design idea from brilliant Rachel O'Reilly and a huge amount of time, effort, expertise, patience and attention to detail from the amazing Howard Lester. What a pleasure it has been to work with Howard, a fellow perfectionist, couldn't recommend him highly enough.

Putting the website together has been an emotional journey in my 20th anniversary year in which, like so many of us, I've not worked for 5 months! So going back over years of gigs, reviews, albums, ReVoice! etc was quite something.
