I have created a community membership website launching in the New Year and it is called TBG Toxins Be Gone and I thought I would share with you the foundation and inspiration behind it's creation. My four pillars of wholistic health. Yes I spelt it with a W because it's all about the naturopathy philosophy of treating the WHOLE person not just their liver or their gut. As Aristotle said "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." We need to work on improving the parts to make a better Whole. Which is where my four pillars of Wholistic Health comes in.

Learn From My Mistakes and Save Yourself Years of Setbacks!

Have you ever heard the expression “Success leaves clues”?

Well...you know what else leaves clues?

Failure.

Yep. I would *almost* argue that failure leaves more clues than success...so guess what?

I have a big old pile of clues that I can share with you based on my failures!

I struggled for YEARS with making really poor food choices and flipping from one diet to the next.

I knew what outcome I wanted...but had no idea how to get there.

I tried following different diets ie paleo, keto...but none of this was helping me reach my health goals…they would work in the beginning when I was being strict and then I would just blame myself for failing.

The worst part of all is these diets weren’t getting me healthier they were actually making it worse. The high fat content sent me straight on a path for heart disease and now I’m slowly winding myself back and reversing all the damage.

🌟 Hello, beautiful people! 🌟 I wanted to share with you something that completely transformed my health and my life. 🌱🍎

When I was struggling to improve my own health, yes, even as a Naturopath we don’t always focus on ourselves when we are always focusing on others. I started researching everything I could about health and nutrition, I wanted to be up to date with the latest research, and then, something amazing happened. If you want to get better you need to plan for the weekend 👩‍🍳📝

If you really want to improve your health and lose weight, do this one thing:

Plan your weekends

We often plan for our weekdays whether it be meal prepping our lunches or eating dinner at home but too often I hear nobody planning or meal prepping their weekends and just snacking.

I believe this is a habit from our school days where Monday to Friday was planned and the weekend were considered days off and a free for all or treat days.

I always say: your heart doesn’t have the weekend off, your metabolism doesn’t have the weekend off, your liver doesn’t have the weekend off, your weight loss doesn't have the weekend off.

Why then do we need to have time off from eating healthy EVERY WEEKEND.

All of the good work you put in during the week is GONE in two days or even one. That’s like two steps forward and FIVE steps back.

Practice the habits that you need to get good at on the weekends as well as during the week in order to live a long and healthful life.

It’s that simple.

My 3 no excuse habits that keep MY GUT HEALTH on track

- I take herbal drops to keep my stomach acid in tip top shape. The stomach plays a huge role in breaking down food. This way I know that I am going to be breaking down my food properly and will be able to use the nutrients. Taking medication to reduce stomach acid can lead to a knock on effect of gut health issues.

- I make sure that my fibre intake is sky high everyday. This way I know that I am feeding the good bacteria in my gut. I do this because they control everything from how I feel emotionally to my metabolism and how frequently I p**p.

- I am always making sure that I get high quality sleep and that my stress levels are kept in check. Because these are two of the main reasons why your bad bacteria takes over.

How can you tell when your gut health is off?

This is not a small problem

Over 300 people a week are diagnosed with bowel cancer in Australia. That’s over 15,000 a year. It is usually more common in the over 50s age bracket but this has now changed and the prevalence in younger people is increasing every year. It’s now about 10% of all cases. That is HUGE.

The mainstream way of dealing with bowel cancer detection is to start investigating when you have symptoms, unless you are over 50 and do the stool test. This unfortunately is not really the best way to reduce our numbers. Why? Because it is better to prevent than to wait and see.

Why the increase in the younger population?

- Increased intake of highly processed foods
- Increased intake of processed meats
- Obesity
- Alcohol

These are a few of the main reasons for the increase.

That is why I do what I do.

My approach is to investigate where you are at currently by testing the Gut Microbiome (the bacteria, parasites, yeast, fungi, worms etc that live in your large intestine). Then based on the results we know where there are problems. Then we can improve the Gut Microbiome, improve your ability to digest food so that you are getting all of the nutrients that you need and removing foods that are connected with increasing your risk of bowel cancer. By focusing on the root cause, which allows people both in the at risk age group as well as the younger age categories which are now at risk to have the best possible defense. Prevention is always better than cure.

Some days there may not be a “win”.

Some days it may feel like all the work that you have put in is all for nothing…

Some days you may not have the ability to be thankful for anything…

Some days you may wonder if things will ever change? Am I ever going to see improvements?
Just know that this is a perfectly normal part of the process.

Most of the time, transformation does not happen in a straight line.

Most of the time the changes that need to come will happen over time vs.all-in-one day.

Sometimes there will be days of two steps forward, three steps back.

BUT a day is just a day.

You can start again afresh at any moment and when it comes to falling off the wagon with food, I always say start again at the next meal.

Please never let a setback be the end of your journey towards change.

I often get asked the difference between using Pharmaceutics vs Natural Medicine so I thought I should take a minute and explain the differences.

1. Pharmaceuticals override the natural functions of the body to reduce your symptoms by either ramping a process up or dampening a process down whereas Natural Medicine works WITH your body to improve the processes.

2. Pharmaceuticals can start to work very quickly whereas many Natural Medicines need to be taken long term to see results. Some results can be within days, weeks or months.

3. Pharmaceuticals may just mask symptoms and the root cause will still be there when you stop taking them whereas Natural Medicine may help to reverse dis-ease processes by filling in nutrient gaps or modulating processes that may be contributing to your symptoms and you can stop taking them when they are no longer needed.

It is important to understand the differences so that you know what kind of results to expect and which choice is right for you. I always say that you may need to take a few different types of Natural Medicines in the beginning but the amount you take will be reduced as you get better. Where as if you allow the dis-ease process to continue you will end up on a lot more pharmaceuticals for the rest of your life.

A while ago I was speaking with a patient who was really struggling with hormones and emotions.

She was telling me about how she had recently had a hysterectomy in her early 40’s. She was distraught because other than stopping the heavy bleeding each month, none of her other symptoms went away, in fact they became more intense and others were added to the list.

When she told me this it broke my heart because I see story after story just like this one in my clinic and it just doesn’t need to be this way. Everytime I see a new patient headed down the same path, I always think of her and how determined it made me to try and prevent women from getting to that stage of hopelessness.

There is a way to investigate deeper with what is going on with your cycle and with your emotions through functional medicine testing and with the use of natural medicine via herbal and nutritional supplements you may see so many improvements that you may not even need surgery. Sometimes surgery is needed especially regarding the big C word, however I have transformed so many women's lives in just a few months (some take longer), with improvements starting at the next cycle.

The fact that so many women are being sent straight to surgery if the pill or mirena doesn’t work just shows me how much work I have left to do and why I am so passionate about making sure people understand they have options when it comes to problems with your hormones, emotions and periods.

Before I was a Parent, I had no idea that parenting your child was all about YOU as a parent learning the skills and techniques to teach THEM the skills they need to become an adult. They are not born with this knowledge and it doesn’t just magically appear in their head. They are not born automatically knowing how to be good and kind. This is up to YOU!!!

I knew how to teach children because I’m an Early childhood teacher. I went to university to learn how to be a teacher but when it comes to your own child, it’s a whole new ball game which doesn’t stop when they learn how to dress themselves. Teaching them and guiding them continues for the rest of your life.

I have worked with so many parents and I have seen all of the struggles they were going through with their child’s behaviour and I have given heaps of advice to hundreds of parents over the years.

When it’s your own child and you are dealing with all of the frustrations that your own adulthood has to bring, It gives you a new perspective. Your child has their own personality and they just want you to see them for who they are. Instead of you trying to fit them into your belief of who they should be.

While I was raising my own child and at the same time teaching other parents about parenting, I was then able to see both sides of the coin. I started to make the connection between how to become an amazing parent and not going insane.

Once I had this initial “ah-ha” moment I quickly began connecting the dots between what behaviors are making parents frustrated and their understanding of the child’s health, their mind, how they think and why they behave the way they do.

This realisation changed my approach to how I was able to guide parents to become the amazing parents that I knew they could be. I was able to put this into action while still working in the childcare sector and also now as a Naturopath and have been doing so for over 20 years.

One of the biggest stressors in a parents life is dealing with their child’s behaviour. When I say behaviour I’m not just referring to tantrums. I am also talking about fussiness, their mental health and anxiety as well as how to teach them to communicate with others (instead of hitting or biting). The skills their child needs to be an amazing adult themselves when the time comes.

When working with parents I focus on helping you understand:

- Why your child is behaving the way they are (is it medical or emotional)
- How to build a better relationship with them.
- Your child is not out to get you and understanding what it is about their behaviour that makes you think they are. What are they really trying to do?
- Why your child interacts with their siblings the way they do (physically or emotionally hurting their sibling is NOT ok and should NOT be brushed off as being acceptable just because they are siblings) and how to redirect this behaviour.
- Why your child doesn’t want to go to school each day
- Why your child takes so long to get ready, forgets things, doesn’t follow instructions.

Medical reasons are often underlying root causes of emotional behaviours. This is always the area I look into first. Such as

- gut health issues affecting their mood and behaviour. This is the most common root cause as it leads to nutritional deficiencies, malabsorption, skin conditions eg eczema. (testing available)
- Brain chemical imbalances such as serotonin, dopamine or gaba (testing available)
- Histamine intolerance and an inability to eliminate toxins (testing available)
- Pyroluria disorder, creating nutritional deficiencies that lead to many symptoms including anger outbursts, anxiety, significant mood changes, inability to handle everyday stress, plus many more. (testing available)
- Food intolerances which can lead to emotional symptoms such as anxiety and depression (testing available)
- Stress hormone imbalances eg cortisol, which leads to fatigue and other hormone imbalances (testing available)
- Insulin resistance - leading to weight gain, low self esteem, as well as many other issues such as headaches, chronic pain, acne, oestrogen dominance, testosterone dominance plus so much more.

It is important to improve these areas while they are young otherwise behaviour issues will continue and become more intense.

This is why I have dedicated my life to helping Mums improve their health and bring in joy. I do this by guiding you to understand your child’s behaviour, teaching you parenting skills and techniques that will also help improve their behaviour as it isn’t always a one sided problem (meaning that the only area needing work is your child), we also need to improve our parenting. I know that working in all of these areas is the key to a happy home life and improving your overall health and wellbeing as well as your relationship with your child.
