Tumbaknaer ❤️
Kashmir's most beloved musical instrument - Tumbaknaer. It's an emotion for us ❤️
Tumbaknaer is an important part of Kashmiri wedding celebrations especially Meanzraat (Mehendi function). Singing and dancing to the Tumbaknaer beats definitely brings out special love and joy to our functions.
Tumbaknaer is an ancient drum like musical instrument indigenous to the Kashmir Valley. The word Tumbaknaer has its origin in Sanskrit 'Tumbukin' for 'Drum' . The naer is added because the tail end of this instrument is like a pipe, which in Kashmiri, is called a Nore, which has in course of time, changed to naer, making the instrument name Tumbaknaer.

HAAR NAVAM Mubarak
Today is 'Haar -Navam' , Ashad Navami (Har Navum) is said to be the birthday of Sharika Devi known as Sharika Jayanti. The Sharika Tirtha is the abode of Mahashakti--- Divine Mother Goddess Durga. The eighteen-armed Goddess Sharika, Ashtadushbuja, is regarded one of the Isht Devi of Kashmiri Hindus. In Ta**ra Shastra, Para-Shakti is known as Triprusundri. The sacred shrine of Sharika Devi is situated on Hari Parbat hill, in the heart of Srinagar city. It is one of the oldest Shakhta shrines of Kashmir..
A legend is associated with the Hari Parbat shrine. A powerful demon, Jalodabhava lived in the waters over the place where the hill is. The demon harassed and troubled the Rishis. The Rishis prayed to Goddess Parvati to free them from the demon. The Goddess assumed the form of a bird Myna called Har in Kashmiri, and dropped a celestial pebble which she was carrying in her beak, at the spot where Jalodabhava the water demon was laying. The pebble grew into a hillock, pinning the demon down forever. The Goddess in grateful memory of deliverance took up her abode at the hill-top and is worshiped as Sharika Bhagwati. The hill is called Hari Parbat --- the hill of Sharika. The legend goes that, the miracle happened on the day of Ashad Shukla Paksh Navami, known in Kashmiri language as Har Navam. The Hindus of Kashmir celebrate this day as birthday of Sharika Bhagwati with great reverence and devotion.

Damaloooo is ❤️

Kashmiri Damaloo, also known as Kashmiri Dum Aloo, is a popular dish hailing from the beautiful region of Kashmir in India. This culinary delight is made using small potatoes known as "baby potatoes" that are cooked in a rich and aromatic gravy.
The origins of Kashmiri Damaloo can be attributed to the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir, where the dish has been prepared and savored for generations. The use of fragrant spices such as fennel, ginger, and asafoetida gives the dish its distinctive taste. Additionally, the vibrant red color of the gravy is achieved by using Kashmiri red chili powder.

Mata Roop Bhawani was a 17th century Hindu Saint who was also known as Alakhishwari (her birth name). She was born to Pandit Madhav Joo Dhar at Nawakadal. As per the legend, Pandit Madhav Joo was ardent devotee of Maa Sharika and used to offer prayers for hours at Hari Parbat. It is said that one day, Maa Sharika appeared before him and asked for a boon. Pandit ji asked for Maa herself in the form of his daughter and that is how Akhileshwari was born on Poorna Amavasya in the month of Zyeshta.
Akhileshwari followed her father on the path of spirituality. Although she was married, but because of the mistreatment received from her husband and in-laws she left the house in pursuit of God. She performed her Sadhana in solitude at Cheshma Shahi, Manigam, and Vaskura. These places, including her birthplace at Safa Kadal, are now famous as Ropa Bhawani Asthapanas. - Source : lalvaakh

Today is Nirwan Diwas of Bhagwan Gopinath Ji 🙏
Jagadguru Bhagawaan Gopinathji was one of the most eminent saints who have ever graced the sacred land of India.Unlike the other saints; he was called Bhagawaan in his lifetime as all the six attributes which that word stands for were seen in him. He was a Jeevan-mukta, having attained mukti or liberation while still in the gross body, to which he was not attached in the least. His spiritual state was what the Shaivites call Shsembhavi avasthaa (the state of Shiva Himself) and the Vendantins, Brahrnisthiti (the state of ever dwelling in Brahmin, or God without a form). With his spiritual power, he did a lot of good to spiritual aspirants, house holders and the country. He brought many sinners round to the path of virtue. Though utterly detached, he showed much concern for the country and its people in his later life.

Happy Buddha Poornima 🌸

Buddha Purnima (also known as Buddha Jayanti) celebrates the birth of Prince Siddharta Gautama (circa 563-483 B.C.) who later went on to become known as the Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. The word ‘Purnima’ is Sanskrit for ‘full moon’, which explains why it is celebrated on a full moon day, and ‘Jayanti’ means ‘birthday’. The word Buddha is given to those who attain ‘bodhi’ or wisdom, hence the name was ascribed to Siddartha once he attained enlightenment. It is commonly celebrated during the month of ‘Vaisakhi’ in Hindu/Buddhist lunar calendars.

Zang Trey Poshte 🌼🌸

Zang Trey is the third day of the New Year (Navreh). According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Shiva created the Universe on Navreh day. On the third day, mata Parvati paid a visit to her parent's home.

There is a tradition of Kashmiri Hindu women paying a visit to their parental house as a ritual on Zang Trai day, conveying good wishes for the new year, and then return to their homes. And on their return their parents give them salt and some money (atghat) as a token of good omen and prosperity.

Navreh-the Kashmiri New Year- This year Kashmiri New Year’s Day falls on March 22nd. Kashmiris follow a lunisolar calendar: a combination of the lunar and solar calendars. Navreh-the Kashmiri New year’s day- falls on the first day of the bright fortnight of Chaitra when the moon enters the constellation Mesha. We believe this day coincides with the 1st day of year on the Saptarishi calendar also used by the Kashmiri Hindus.

On the morning of Navreh, the Kashmiri tradition calls for the ritual viewing (Darshan) of a plate (usually bronze or steel thali) filled with various items and paraphernalia for good omen.

Navreh thal is prepared on the eve of the festival. The thali is presented early next morning individually to all the family members by a younger female or an elderly lady. Navreh thal consists of below items :

2. Roti :Symbolic representation for expansion and integration in one’s socio-cultural surrounding.
3.Cooked rice is a symbol of transformation and progression in life in the right direction.
4. Currency note or a gold item represents good fortune, prosperity.
5. Pen symbolizes wisdom and knowledge
6. Janthri of the new year represents the symbolic connection of the events in human life to the planetary influences and their movements
