अपने खेतों को बंजर होने से बचाइए। यूरिया खेत को बंजर बना देती है इसका पूर्ण रूप से बहिष्कार कीजिये।
शरीर के लिए, जमीन के लिए सबसे अधिक घातक यूरिया ही साबित हो रही है।
1995 के बाद से पैदावार लगातार घट रही है। चालीस सालों से यूरिया के अंधाधुंध इस्तेमाल ने खेतों को बंजर कर दिया है। आखिर एक बार फिर से किसानों ने अपने खेतों में गोबर आदि की खाद डालनी शुरू की। इससे पैदावार तो नहीं बढ़ी लेकिन घटनी भी कम हुई। लेकिन 2010 तक आते-आते अब गोबर की खाद भी आसानी से नहीं उपलब्ध हो पा रही थी। आज के हालात ये हैं कि किसान एक एकड़ के खेत में 225 से 250 किलो यूरिया डालने से भी बाज नहीं आ रहे हैं। कारण कि हर हाल में वही 15-20 साल पहले की 12 गुना उपज की जो दरकार है। अब तमाम कोशिशें नाकाम साबित हो रही हैं। पोद्दार पुराने समय को याद करते हुए बताते हैं कि आज से 50 साल पहले हमारे देश के प्रधानमंत्री हमसे यूरिया इस्तेमाल करने की चिरौरी कर रही थे। आज पांच दशक के बाद जब हमारे खेत पूरी तरह से खत्म होने वाले हैं तो वर्तमान प्रधानमंत्री हमसे (26 दिसंबर, 2017 को प्रसारित मन की बात में) अब यूरिया का कम से कम उपयोग करने की अपील कर रहे हैं। यही नहीं अब सरकार यूरिया पर सब्सिडी भी कम करती जा रही है। 2015-16 के बजट में यूरिया के लिए 72,438 करोड़ सब्सिडी रखी गई थी, जिसे 2016-17 के दौरान घटाकर 70,000 करोड़ रुपए कर दिया। पोद्दार ने एक अनुमान लगाते हुए बताया कि पिछले 50 सालों में हमने एक एकड़ के खेत में लगभग 6,610 किलो यूरिया का इस्तेमाल कर लगभग 5,337 कुंतल उपज (गेहूं व चावल) हासिल की।
