West Virginia is known for beautiful, winding mountains and the abundance of natural wildlife that call them home. We are here to change that.
Unfortunately, it can also be known for its large amount of litter that lines its roadways, creeks, and rivers.

A few simple ways to help reduce the amount of single use plastic that end up harming our environment.
Instead of buying single use make up wipes that you throw away after each use, buy liquid makeup remover.
Use a water filter attachment on your tap water instead of using disposable bottles. (If not possible, try buying water in gallon containers to reduce as much plastic as possible)
Metal utensils are great since you can reuse them over and over thus greatly reducing the amount of plastic you use while eating your daily meals.
Please feel free to share any litter cleanup events that are happening in your area! I apologize I haven't been posting much lately. If you have participated in any events lately, please share your pictures to encourage others or if you have any places that you see need to be taken care of!
Please make sure to dispose of your drinks and other trash properly. 🚮

April 25: While maintaining social distancing, five volunteers scattered on 3 separate public access points and cleaned up trash on our Opequon Creek. Thanks to the dynamic duo of main honcho, Lou Scavnicky, and Herb Peddicord for organizing and doing this on their own as the scheduled Make It Shine-WV Litter Cleanup had to be cancelled. Nice work folks and THANK YOU.

The Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act is the first comprehensive bill in Congress to address the ocean plastic crisis in the U.S.
If it passes, it will reduce unnecessary plastic production and pollution while reforming our broken waste management system.
This incredibly important bill needs constituent support to make it through the House and the Senate successfully.

If you are looking to help your community by collecting trash on your daily walk, please consider buying a Reacher similar to the one shown. Many companies sell them for varying prices (often cheaper than this one).
They are not only much SAFER than using your hands, but they also make it much EASIER & FASTER than reaching down for each item.
They are able to pick up nearly everything from old footballs 🏈 to even cigarette butts 🚭.
