I’m teaching a workshop this weekend, more photos of my inspiring student’s work tomorrow😁🧺
Playing with willow bark, so much fun, it’s like doing a 3-D puzzle 😁🧺
My son Aaron’s latest art, a life size snow sculpture of an orca whale! If you would like to see it live and you live in the Vancouver BC area head down to Jericho Beach. Rain expected tomorrow, so just like sand art it will very soon just be a memory.
Snow day today! 😁👍
Weaving in my nice warm living room today, it is far too cold to weave in my studio. My studio does have a heater but not a lovely roaring fire that does a far better job of keeping my home warm during this extremely cold spell we are having right now. Luckily I had some willow in my freezer that had been previously soaked, my soaking trough is totally frozen!
Lovely day hanging out , weaving while listening to cool tunes and surrounded by beautiful art.
Class Announcement!
This oval basket is built on a hoop (see second picture) with scallomed (spliced) rods attached. Some experience with willow basketry is recommended and comfort using very sharp knives. This class is held in Gibsons February 3-4. Please contact me directly to register.
Some of the beautiful colours of my recently harvested willow.
Merry Christmas!
The harvest is now complete at farm. A huge thank you Tasha! And huge thank you to my lovely volunteers Now to start on my willow at home on Texada😁👍
The harvesting begins👍😁 Many thanks to for your help❤️
Today is all about frame baskets, slow and steady wins the race!
Look at this painting!! Created by using one of my baskets for inspiration. ❤️❤️
In my kitchen. This is modelled after the purse/handbag I’ve been using daily for the past six years. If you would like an incredibly sturdy, beautiful, and sustainably locally made purse too this is available for sale, check my highlights on my profile page for details.
Thank you to for the inspiration to try doing the double Irish weave, it is lovely!
Thank you to Elle and Anna (and sweet little Alfie) for coming to Texada to learn to make their first willow baskets at my home studio! Such nice baskets!👏👏
Yes those are all natural colours❤️❤️
In my kitchen today. This long strapped basket is off to Montreal today to begin its life as a mushroom foraging basket. I love to think of all the adventures this basket is going to have romping around in the forests😁🧺
Oh my gosh, I have the best students! This is my Gibsons group. We are doing skills building, and they killed the stacked French randing in both the base and the sides. Yeahhhhhh!!!
In my kitchen this morning. This is a busy time of the year for me and I love it! I’m getting commissions completed, the last two workshops for 2023 are coming up (sorry they are full), and I’m busily making more stock for the open house happening next Friday December 1st at 7pm. Come by and say hi!
Some great action shots of my students hard at work this weekend, thank you Brenna for the lovely photography!
In my kitchen this morning. This harvesting basket is large 20” across, but because it has handles it can hang in the wall while you aren’t using it, and who doesn’t live baskets on walls😁🧺
I am loving this colour combination (acutifolia and black maul), I’m busy working on my backlog of commissions this week (thank you for your patience!). If you are thinking a basket would make a fabulous Christmas present please message me as soon as possible, I typically need a minimum two week window to get the willow soaked before weaving.
A couple of spaces have come available for the berry basket class being held November 18-19, 10-3pm at Tidal Arts Centre in Lund. $275 Please contact me directly if you would like to join us.
I decided to put a willow bark collar on this basket, I love it!!
This perigord basket is like none I have ever made before, maybe not the best one to try to learn without a teacher beside me 🤣😳 However, I keep playing over and over Eva’s online instructions on Baskets2Day and am making progress! I’ve gone back to the beginning three times now and feel like I’m just beginning to get a sense of this basket. I really should be working on commissions and Christmas stock though, so it is time to put this aside for a while. The second picture shows the craziness going on before it starts to take shape😁🧺
Not perfect by any means but I made it to the next stage💪👍
My first time trying to make a perigord basket, shortly after this picture it all fell apart 🤣🤣 I will try again after lunch 😁🧺
In my kitchen this morning.
