British MMA fighter of the year
This has been a remarkable year of success for British MMA fighters.
After waiting six years for another world champion in a major organisation, we got two in quick succession in Leon Edwards (UFC) and Brendan Loughnane (Professional Fighters League).
We've seen the likes of Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann capture the imagination and attention of wider sports audiences and watched prospects like Muhammad Mokaev and Cory McKenna flourish on the biggest stage.
Cage Warriors is awash with British champions including Northern Ireland's Paul Hughes and England's George Hardwick.
And let's not forget KSW heavyweight champion Phil De Fries who successfully defended his title in the Polish MMA promotion for the sixth and seventh time this year.
There are almost too many great fighters to mention. But we want you to pick your fighter of the year, if you can.
Good luck!

PT's Before & After Camp. | Blog Post
Unlike some sports, there is no on or off season for fighters. They must be ready to prepare for a competition at a moments notice. But staying ready does not mean always staying on weight.
Fighters will often compete at a weight class that puts them below their natural body weight if they were not training.
When competing, a fighter needs time for optimal preparation of their skills, sharpness and fitness to perform on fight night. Aesthetics are not a consideration when training for functional ability in sports but physique can be a rough measure for conditioning.
For November's bout I had a two month camp which saw me go from 85kg to 76kg. Losing 9KG in eight weeks all while prioritising skills, technique & ability is a win in itself. If you can't make weight, you can't compete ! And in such a short space of time, it requires careful attention to detail, as too much too soon can cause issues with staying at weight until fight night. And this needs to be a healthy accomplishment or a fighter risks not passing their pre fight medical examination.
Healthy, timely weight management is just another skill that an experienced fighter learns through their time competing.
Seeing the results in the mirror and on the scales is even more rewarding when setting a SMART goal for my clients !
โThe fight is won or lost far away from witnesses โ behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lightsโ

Public Reacts To Donald Cerroneโs Stunning New Physique | Blog Post
Former UFC lightweight and welterweight fighter Donald Cerrone recently set social media ablaze with a look at his new physique.
Donald Cerrone retired from the Octagon following his second-round submission loss to Jim Miller at UFC 276. โCowboyโs last win was a unanimous decision victory over Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night 151 in April 2019. Following his retirement announcement, Cerrone revealed he plans on moving into show business in the near future.
In a recent Instagram post, several photos of Cerrone in training reveal heโs put on a considerable amount of muscle mass since retiring. A wide variety of reactions from MMA fighters, fans, and pundits have since come in, highlighting the impressive mass gain Cerroneโs displaying, particularly on his upper body and arms.
โJackedโ โ Sean Brady Among The Commenters On Donald Cerroneโs New Physique
UFC welterweight Sean Brady seemed impressed with Donald Cerroneโs new beefed-up aesthetic. He simply commented โJackedโ on โCowboyโs Instagram post. Fellow welterweight Mickey Gall had similar sentiments, commenting โDieselโ on the post.
Two fans made amusing nods to Paulo Costaโs popular secret juice meme while others were less subtle in suggesting potential PED use.
Former UFC Vice President of Public Relations and Athlete Marketing, Dave Sholler took the meme-heavy humor even further with โLiver King OUT!โ
โWhatโs wrong with your arms?!?โ Syndicate MMA head coach John Wood commented. โYou having some kind of allergic reaction?
Donald Cerrone retired with a record of 36-17-0-2NC. He is tied with Andrei Arlovski for second most wins in UFC history at 23. Heโs also tied with Jim Miller in second place for most finishes at 16, and tied with Charles Oliveira for most post-fight bonus awards at 18.
Donald Cerroneโs recent training post and impressive physical condition have left fans wondering if he could already be considering a comeback.
Nutritional perfection. The focus of our festive season? | Blog Post
Food is such a massive part of celebrating, bringing together friends and family members over warming meals or hearty drinks. After the two years weโve had, sharing joyous meals is more important than ever. Many people didnโt get a chance to be with loved ones last year and this year has again left people with intense burnout that only quality time with friends and family can ease. And yetโฆ Iโm being reminded how many calories are in the bottle of prosecco that Iโm going to share with my mum. That โit takes 1,445 squats to burn off one serving of your favourite Christmas foodโ. On my explore feed on Instagram, an influencer informed me that I should be โcalorie awareโ, listing all Christmas foods from After Eights to an orange in order of caloric value. Even the National Trust got involved, encouraging us to visit their beautiful parks to โwalk off the Christmas puddingโ when there are so many better reasons to go and explore the outside.
Itโs not just brands โ Iโve found myself in conversations with friends discussing how โgoodโ or โbadโ theyโve already been this month or how they just canโt resist a Quality Street/a Baileys/a gingerbread man.
multiple studies show that food restriction leads to binging and
Not to mention the fact that imposing the idea that a few meals will drastically change your fitness levels or cause a negative impact on your health is ludicrous and, quite frankly, just bad science. Plus, framing exercise as something we do to earn or burn off calories negates the huge mental, physical and social impact of workouts.
So, let me be the voice telling you to forget these stupid headlines that suggest the only effect of Christmas food is poor health. Instead, try to focus on the fact that you will also gain happiness, connection and memories after another year that has significantly lacked all of those things.

2023 Fitness Trends to Watch Out For | Blog Post
Whatโs on track to keep fitness fresh next year? Lean in because weโve got the scoop on all things healthy, fun and fulfilling. Plenty of trends are still going strong (We see you, pickleball, HIIT, and pilates!) but hereโs what we see in store ahead. Here are YouFit Gymโs 2023 fitness trends to watch out for:
Wellness Wearables
While congress debates over consumer data practices heat up, โwhatโs clear is people want more of their own data,โ says YouFit Gymsโ Senior Fitness Director, Raphael Konforti MS. Versions of fitness trackers โ think FitBit, Apple Watch, and more โ have been around for years but consumers are still in the infancy of using these gadgets to their full potential. Look for Apple Watch in particular to push headfirst into adding extra sensors to improve tracking accuracy and add more data. Other trackers will add new workout options like dance and yoga. Pedometers and heart rate tracking companies like Whoop and Oura will continue to shine. And even big players like Amazon and Google are throwing substantial money into tracking wellness and recovery. Thatโs right. Your watch may soon start telling you how much energy youโve used, and give input on how to rest and repair for ultimate health and wellness going forward.
Mini Workouts
No time for a full workout? Research shows that breaking up a 30-minute workout into 10-minute chunks works just as well. In fact, GoodRx reports that, โongoing research shows that even just 10 minutes of moderate to vigorous daily exercise can improve your health.โ
If youโve only got a little time at the gym, hereโs a 10-minute starter routine. Simply repeat as many times as you can inside 10 minutes.
10 Minute Tabata Routine
10 bodyweight squats
10 pushups
20 jumping jack.
20-second plank
10 glute bridges
20 seconds of rest
Tabata
Insiders say this Olympic-caliber training routine is on the rise for 2023,
