Jim "Doc" Miller is an acoustic singer/guitarist who can perform unplugged (just Doc and his acoustic guitar) or amplified through a small 10-50w 'busking' amp. When plugged in Jim does not use backing tracks, multi-layered loops, or any pitch correcting doo-dads. (OK, maybe a little reverb and some EQ tweaks, but for the most part when you come to hear Jim what you hear is Jim and just Jim, warts

Where I am at this summer: Wineries, Breweries and Bistros oh my.
Glad I got the chance to play yesterday at Beatles on the Chippewa, which came very close to becoming Beatles IN the Chippewa as the river rose nearly to the upper deck of the Corral Bar. Thanks to Dan Callan of Bear Creek Band for the back line and managing all of the set ups.
The Eau Claire open mic scene boosts local talent It's no secret the arts thrive in Eau Claire. Many local artists credit that to the city's open mic scene.
Winter isn't finished with us yet, but neither are the Winter Farmers Markets! I'm playing one last time on April 8th before shifting gears to playing outdoors again at bistros, wineries and proper outdoor markets--assuming that winter has finally been handed its hat.
Coming up in April: I'll be playing a short set from 3:25 to 3:45 for the big Beatles on the Chippewa event in Durand.
Playing 9 to noon on Saturday at Raw Deal for the Winter Farmers Market, now with extra added Winter.
This Saturday, January 28th, I will be infiltrating the Raw Deal between 9 am and noon and performing a 2 hour set for the Winter Farmer's Market. Come for the jams and jellies, stay for the rock and roll.
I'll be at the Menomonie Farmers Market WINTER MARKET this Saturday (12/10) at the RAW DEAL in Menomonie playing seasonal favorites plus my usual mix of folky rocky originals and classics, 9 am til noonish.
I'll be playing two 45 minute sets of holiday favorites here, at noon and again at 1pm on Friday November 18th.
The autumn winds blow chilly and cold, but I will brave them for one last Menomonie Farmers Market this Saturday, October 15th, from nine until numb. Wilson Park bandshell, grab a hot beverage and a sweater and come on down.
Live music goes so darn good with pie!
This Saturday in the garden. Local favorite Jim Miller. Starting around noonish :)
Jim is an acoustic singer/guitarist who can perform unplugged (just Jim and his Taylor 814) or through a small 5w 'busking' amp or for larger and/or rowdier venues he can set up a full 200w PA. When plugged in Jim does not use backing tracks, multi-layered loops, or any pitch correcting doo-dads. Maybe a little reverb and some EQ tweaks, OK, but for the most part when you come to hear Jim what you hear is Jim and just Jim. The music clips on this page are straight up live captures with a primitive cell phone--no post production tinkering. If you want to listen to perfect music created by an algorithm, this is not your guy. (If you want to hear the rich and textured sound of guitars, horns, keyboards and drums, I strongly urge you to go find a real live band playing real live instruments and please tip them generously because I think they might be on the brink of extinction.) Jim plays original "folk rock flavored" material as well as a wide and eclectic range of covers, from John Prine to prog rock, Emmylou Harris to the British Invasion, Beatles to Stones and back again, with deep dives into Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot and Harry Chapin and also showcases of small time folksingers nearly as obscure as Jim himself. For venues that have not purchased a license for cover songs (ouch!) Jim can and will play a set of all originals and traditional (public domain) folk music from the US and the British (and formerly British) Isles including songs sung in Welsh, Gaelic, and Scots. E Pluribus Unum.
