For the pistol shooters out there. These are some serious Personal Defense Rounds.

Tech Tuesday #10: Why is your PHD Defense ammunition loaded to standard pressures instead of +P?

Firstly, standard pressures and a low velocity sheer point (800fps) ensure the rounds do not over-penetrate and can be held to FBI specs for personal home defense ammunition

Secondly, standard pressures allow for less recoil. Our bullets are light for caliber since they are solid copper, so therefore the overall weight of the cartridge will be lighter. This in addition to the standard pressures allow for a significant reduction in recoil which can be beneficial in defensive situations and also for shooters with smaller frames.

Tech Tuesday 07: What's the difference between your hunting bullet lines?

The biggest difference between our hunting bullet lines is the terminal performance and effective range.
In general, the higher the terminal performance, the lower the BC. This is because of cavity required in the tips of our bullets in order for them to expand and create trauma. The larger the cavity, the higher the trauma, but lower the effective range.

I had a great day at the Colorado Offhand State Championship with a score of 779-23 to end in an unbreakable tie with Kenny Langford. Shooting iron sights using Cutting Edge Bullets MTAC 55 gr. The bullet to bullet performance helped me keep up with the scope shooters. Special thanks to Russ Gary for running the match and Ben Holmes the 100yd line.

TECH TUESDAY #4
What is the maximum velocity I can push your bullets?

- Our bullets are all a solid copper, lathe turned design. One of the many benefits of this construction is the ability to push our bullets as fast as you wish without any negative effects. The only exception is our subsonic bullets and our handgun hollowpoints. All of the information in this post does not pertain to these products (more on that later).

- No matter the velocity, our bullets will not come apart in flight or blow apart upon contact. The only difference between high velocity impacts and low velocity impacts with our bullets is the number of petals that will shear off.

- Our bullets will always start expanding after 1-2” of pe*******on. Higher velocities will create more petals and will break up much more violently. For example, our Maximus™ line sheds 4 petals at lower velocities while you can get up to 8 at higher velocities.

- As stated earlier, the only exception to this is our Handgun Hollowpoints and Subsonic Raptor line. Because these two bullets are designed to expand at low velocities, they do not function well at impact velocities over 2,000fps.

Tech tips from Cutting Edge Bullets, this is good information for anyone.

TECH TUESDAY
We are diving into FAQ's each Tuesday.

This week:
"Why do I have to go lighter with your bullets?"
- More often than not, people switching to our bullets need to go lighter than what they are used to. This is because twist rate plays an incredibly important role in being able to stabilize our bullets.

- Because our bullets are solid copper (no lead core), they are light for caliber. In order to get an equivalent weight to lead core bullet, we add length to our bullets.

- The heavier the bullet, the longer it will be, and the faster the required twist rate will be. If you shoot one of our bullets but you do not have the minimum required twist rate or faster, you will not be able to stabilize that bullet.

- It’s also important to mention that velocity will NEVER be enough to overcome a lack of minimum required twist rate.

- You can find the minimum required twist rate for all of our bullets on the products page under the “more information” tab. You can also find a complete technical data sheet for all of our bullets under the “Technical Data” tab.

- A note about twist rates: Lower numbers = faster twist rate. If a minimum required twist rate on our website is listed as 1:10” or faster, this means you can use that bullet in a 1:10, 1:9, 1:8 etc.
