Before the term "MACHIAVELLIAN" became popular in Philippine social media (due to a question raised for Mr. Bongbong Marcos), the Phavisminda Journal already published 2 articles on the topic; this was in response but also a tribute to the late Br. Romualdo Abulad, SVD who wrote years ago "Philosophy and Politics: Do they Mix?" Know more about Machiavelli beyond caricatures and oversimplified explanations. See: R.J.S. Abellanosa's article "Niccolo Machiavelli and the Possibility of the Post-political" and R.A. Imbong's "Abulad's Post-Machiavelli and His Apology of Duterte" - both accessible in Vol. 18 (2019) Special Issue.

CALL FOR PAPERS: Volume 20 (2021 Issue)
Theme: "Philosophy and Christianity"

The Quincentennial of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines is also a timely event to revisit and re-discuss the relationship of Philosophy and Christianity. Beyond the celebratory discourses, a philosophical reception of the event is part of the imperative of the commemoration given the shared history of Christianity and academic philosophy in the country. Read the details of the CFP and submit your abstract for consideration.

On this day when we commemorate all great souls who have gone ahead of us, the PHAVISMINDA Journal's editorial board releases this 2019 Special Issue dedicated to the late Brother Romualdo E. Abulad, S.V.D. This issue includes two (2) featured essays by Dr. Ryan Urbano and Fr. CALL FOR PAPERS (2020 Issue)
Rethinking Reality: COVID-19 and
Philosophical Reflections at the Edges

19/09/2020

We welcome you to the official page of The Phavisminda Journal. We welcome you with a reminder from Alain Badiou, that a philosopher is “an inventor of problems” (Thinking the Event). This reminder is most fitting as we re-ignite the official publication of the Philosophical Association of the Visayas and Mindanao (PHAVISMINDA) in the midst of the pandemic. We are not yet out from our problems, and even if we will be out from this problem, we will never run out of many others in the future. Precisely why the invitation for all of you to contribute to our journal.

Philosophical thinking must be most alive in the darkest moments of human history. It may not save the world, and its task is not to. But it allows people, again in the words of Badiou, “to choose” – because “a philosophical situation consists in the moment when a choice is elucidated.” We hope to have your manuscripts once we have released the official Call for Papers soon. We look forward to your views whether they express “choices of existence” or “choices of thought.”

We thank the officers of Phavisminda for their most kind and generous support to the publication. Kindly, keep posted for details.
