Château de l’Abrègement was the venue for our latest meet-up yesterday and it really is a hidden gem that you must try to visit if you’re ever in the Charente. It’s the ancestral home of the family of the current owner, Phillipe d’Hemery and he made us feel very welcome as we sketched and painted in the beautiful sunshine. In the grounds of his estate are sculptures by artists including Andy Goldsworthy, Antony Gormley, Christian Lapie and Joel Shapiro, which provided added inspiration. Afterwards we went for a chat over drinks and sorbets in a café in Ruffec - a thoroughly lovely way to spend the afternoon. Get in contact if you would like to come to future meet-ups and/or join our WhatsApp group.
