Join me on Cara. Instagram has failed artists and account growth has crawled to a halt. Far too much spam and scam plus Cara attempts to filter out AI garbage to focus on real creators. I’ll still post on IG for the time being but giving this a shot.

Get closer to nature with the paintings of Redwood City-based artist Scott Johnson, whose solo show “Connection to Nature” runs through February at Portola Art Gallery. Johnson paints exclusively in oils, according to a press release about the show, and many of his landscapes capture the natural beauty of the Golden State and the Bay Area. Meet Johnson at the gallery on Feb. 24, 1-4 p.m.

A plein air piece from this past summer along the coast.
Working out design ideas for a new large painting. Inspired by a recent trip to the central coast of California, I started with a number of pencil drawings to come up with a basic composition and design, but that can only take me so far. I work out most of the final design by painting a small study. This one is 12x16” - small enough to do in a day but large enough to give me confidence in the enlargement.
We’ll see where it goes. 🤷🏼
