A case control study investigated male soccer players and their respiratory muscle strength and looked at if there was a relationship with postural stability.
They looked at respiratory strength, rate and displacement of pressure centre.
The diaphragm is the main inspiration muscle and helps with postural regulation and stabilising the lumbar spine. They reported better postural control with greater inspiratory muscle strength. The study suggests that greater breathing (respiratory) muscle strength is correlated with improved postural stability.
An examination by your healthcare professional is still the key factor in a shoulder diagnosis.
A recent webinar I attended in orthopaedic and sports medicine, highlighted the fact that imaging often does not reveal the cause of the patients shoulder pain.
To go further into that, a recent study by Cooper et al., (2022) looked at elite rock climbers with no symptoms. Imaging (MRI) revealed a high incidence of pathologies for example 80% of the athletes studied had a pathology like a rotator cuff tendon injury with no symptoms.
The consensus seems to go towards what is the patient presenting with and what is there history and physical examination saying. Thoughts?

In yoga weβre taught to practice on living and being in the moment. Itβs a form of practice to connect and tap your focus into being in the present. The practice allows you to try and observe your thoughts instead of engaging with them. Our thoughts can easily distract us and fill our minds with unnecessary thoughts about the future or past, when all we really have is the present.

Ankle mobility is the joints ability to move through range of motion. If weβre looking at the squat ankle dorsiflexion is important for squat performance as it can allow the squat to stay balanced . If there is a lack of this and reduced mobility of the ankle it not only affects performance but it is associated with a number of lower limb injures.
Ankle dorsiflexion are important factors contributing to deep squatting (Kim et al., 2015).
Lack of mobility in the knee and hip can also affect squat depth and performance negatively. Postural control , pelvic and core control are necessary for safe deep squatting performance.
Instability of the ankle joint may also affect performance of hip and knee during the squat as instability lower down can have a direct influence in the the joints higher up the kinetic chain. So itβs important that we not only look at mobility but also take into account stability around the ankle joint.
Even if your not into squatting, the gym, or weights, squatting is a movement pattern that we require for every day tasks so these are important things to consider in clinical, non clinical populations and for all activity levels.

Psychological factors play a key role in the ability of athletes in return to play and sport.
Psychological barriers which include fear of re-injury, anxiety, emotional disturbance and low motivation, have been associated with failure of return to play (Barber-Weston, 2019). Despite function, pain and strength resolving a hesitancy to return to play due to fear of re-injury. Itβs important to address these thought and behavioural patterns in rehabilitation.
