These tiny miniature masterpieces were once part of the binding of a 17thCentury volume of Cicero. They were discovered when the book was being repaired and the spine was replaced. According to the bookbinder its not uncommon that other script fragments were cut up and used to form the bindings of new books he thinks these fragments date to either the14th or 15th Centuries and may have been taken from a book of hours due to the script size.I have mounted the fragments between glass so both front and rear can be viewed and also used 16th century timber to form the frame.
I have some rare bellarmine sherds that i intend incorporating into pieces of art these all date from the 16th and 17th Century.

I sometimes create pieces of work using materials and objects that have been given to me by other people thats the case with this particular piece. The miniature Bible is a David Bryce miniature published in 1901 and given to me in exchange for a piece of work i did, i feel its now time it finds a new home but not before i add my own personal touch of a sherd box to keep it extra safe.
