TV Review - 1883 - Vered Neta 03/10/2023

Now that my Book Tour of "Things We Do For Love" is over, I had time to watch good 'ol TV shows. I know I'm "late to the party", but I finally watched the 8 episodes of the TV show 1883, which is a prequel to the hit show "Yellowstone".

Here is my review and my insights as a scriptwriter from this prequel, which is a part of the Yellowstone franchise.

TV Review - 1883 - Vered Neta "1883" takes you on an epic journey with the Dutton family as they leave the heart of Texas for a Montana ranch, the central setting of this present-day series.

I'm so touched by these words, and this time from http://www.instagram.com/she_loves_to_read

"Vered's beautifully written story exploring family dynamics, complex emotions, fractured relationships, difficult choices, forgiveness, making peace with yourself and others, self-discovery and the fragility of life... Vered is an author who leaves a seamless imprint on your heart and mind. I can't recommend this highly enough, and I'm really looking forward to her next novel due in December."

In celebration of my Blog Tour - "Things We Do For Love" is now on sale on Amazon, Kobo & Barnes & Noble.

Another great review on my Blog Tour, this time on http://www.christianbookaholic.com/:

"Things We Do For Love by Vered Neta is a beautiful contemporary novel about a family.... exploring complex relationships within a family. I loved it. There are some difficult topics, sensitively portrayed. In the end, we can say that within this family, love wins."

Nothing is more rewarding to an author (at least to me) than knowing that your words have touched and moved others.

This review made my day:
"This book broke my heart into a million little pieces and then put it back together again. Oh the emotions I felt, I don’t think I was quite prepared for it!.... There was a paragraph that has stuck with me, it’s not often I highlight things. But I physically felt this one. So I’ll leave you with it.. just know I wholeheartedly recommend that you read this book!"

21/09/2023

Another 5-star review for my book "Things We Do For Love".

My favourite part of the review was: "A thought-provoking read, and it explores the tough issues and the relationships we have with our family. I'm so excited to read more of this author's books because if this one is anything to go by, they will be brilliant."

18/09/2023

That's nice to wake up to - a 4-star review on my book

The part that made me happy was: "The author masterfully weaves together themes of motherhood, forgiveness, and the search for personal fulfilment. Readers will find themselves emotionally invested in Daisy's quest to reconcile with her past and find peace in her present circumstances.

Overall, this is a captivating and deeply introspective exploration of family dynamics and personal growth. It serves as a reminder that sometimes, in order to move forward, one must confront the ghosts from their past.

BOOK VS. FILM: Firefly Lane - The Case for Non-Linear Storytelling - Vered Neta 29/08/2023

BOOK VS. TV SHOW - FIREFLY LANE
Non-linear structure can be seen in many movies (and novels) for the past 25 years. It can be a tricky one, but certainly, it has the power to make the story more intriguing.

Firefly Lane, the TV show, is a GREAT example of the advantage of using that structure. Here is my take on it by comparing it to the original source - the book.

BOOK VS. FILM: Firefly Lane - The Case for Non-Linear Storytelling - Vered Neta After finishing the first season of "Firefly Lane," I couldn't resist sending a WhatsApp message to my daughter: " If you ever want to see what kind of teenager I was, you should check out 'Firefly Lane.' your mum was Kate during her teens and early twenties – the looks, behaviour, the whole packa...

I had a lot of reasons to celebrate - Publication Day, sold more units than expected, my birthday this weekend... all good reasons to go out on a Date Night with my hubby.

But the truth was - I REALLY wanted to see Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning 1 and it didn't fail us!

IT WAS AWESOME! - Obviously, when it comes to MI movies you expect Tom Cruise to run, jump, fly and do crazy stuff no man over 40 should do (and he's 61!)... But the BEST was his comic scenes.

I can't remember when I last laughed so much in a movie. This movie is PURE entertainment - that's what summer movies should be!

I highly recommend it, if you want to go to something that is entertaining and fun... That's what showbiz is all about, isn't it?

From Ordinary to Extraordinary: Demystifying Character Arc. - Vered Neta 04/07/2023

One of the best reviews I got on "Things We Do For Love" was that: "the character's arc ending where it does was beautiful and perfect."

I've worked hard on trying to do that with all my characters, not just the Protagonist. With so much information and different methods and concepts about Character Arcs, it can be confusing.

So, here is my latest blog post on "Demystifying Character's Arc"

Would LOVE to hear what you think.

The Sandman's "Calliope": A Cautionary Tale for Pantser Writers - Vered Neta 10/03/2023

There is always a debate about what makes a "better" writer a "Plotter" or a "Pantser".

I believe that in the last episode of "The Sandman," we can find the biggest danger in being a "Pantser".

What do YOU think - who makes a better writer? A Plotter or a Pantser?

The Sandman's "Calliope": A Cautionary Tale for Pantser Writers - Vered Neta For those who are unfamiliar with these terms, a “Pantser” is a writer who writes without a clear plan or outline, allowing the story to unfold organically. On the other hand, a “Plotter” is a writer who meticulously plans out the story before starting to write, outlining the plot, character...

Could Mediocre Movies Save Movie Theaters? ‘Ticket to Paradise,’ ‘A Man Called Otto’ and ‘80 for Brady’ Say Yes 21/02/2023

I LOVE movies! But that doesn't mean that I will always go to those that are High-end ones. A lot of the times I love watching those movies that are just for the FUN of it...

I get upset when some of my favourite movies are being labeled as mediocre or even being trashed (like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, or Knight & Day or even The Bucket List). So that's why I totally behind this article that explains why we need more films that critics call mediocare.

Would LOVE to get your thoughts on it.

Beyond the Fairytale: 7 Films that Show the Different Sides of Love - Vered Neta 13/02/2023

It's Valentine's day tomorrow. It's always been irritating for me that people (and the movie industry) think that it's all about one type of love - the ROMANTIC one. From siblings to self-love, these 7 movies prove that love is not limited to traditional romantic relationships.

Speech, The Key to Memorable Characters - Vered Neta 06/02/2023

A major lesson that I got from adapting one of my novels into a script is - Creating believable and lovable characters is easy when you know how to make their speech reflect their personality.

Check out my new blog post and learn how to create unforgettable characters!

Speech, The Key to Memorable Characters - Vered Neta Pulling off a successful film to television adaptation is a tricky business. Think You Can be a Movie Critic? Be KIND - Vered Neta 23/01/2023

Being a movie critic doesn't mean you should tear down the movie. For some reason most movie critics think that this would prove their superiority. Nothing is farther from the truth.

Why I’m Tired of the “Kick-Ass Hottie” Character - Vered Neta 09/01/2023

I always wanted to see strong female characters on the screen, not just the "girlfriend" or the "wife".

But one female character that I'm fed of is the "kick-ass hottie", Here is why I'm tired of seeing her.

Why I’m Tired of the “Kick-Ass Hottie” Character - Vered Neta First time I ever saw what is called a “kick-ass-hottie” I was cheering. However, since then a lot has changed and frankly, each time I see that trope on screen I feel like screaming.

The Sandman - Why I LOVE It - Vered Neta 26/12/2022

Happy Boxing Day (or Fruitcake day for my US friends)!!! Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and got your presents.
My gift for myself was watching (again) The Sandman and realising how AWESOME it. Here are my reasons:

The Sandman - Why I LOVE It - Vered Neta For scriptwriters, like me, the show has been a fantastic example on how to balance between staying true to original source while breathing new life and making it into something different.

The Holy Trinity of Writing - Concept, Character, Structure - Vered Neta 12/12/2022

You know you became an expert when you can out of the blue give a 30 minutes lecture about a topic that you thought you're just a novice.

Imagine my surprise when I was able to do that about the Art of Writing

The Holy Trinity of Writing - Concept, Character, Structure - Vered Neta Having a good idea is not enough to create a story. Don't just fell in love with your idea, You need to develop it to make a book. A good idea needs to be followed up with the Holy Trinity of writing – Concept, Character and Structure.

Last Kingdom - Adapting Historical Novels - Vered Neta 28/11/2022

Adopting historical novels can be challenging. But when done right, can improve the original. "The Last Kingdom" is a great example of it.

What did you prefer - the books or the TV show? Would love to hear your verdict.

Last Kingdom - Adapting Historical Novels - Vered Neta The Last Kingdom is a fantastic example of how to take original sources (books) and turn them into a successful TV show.

Pitfalls in Writing Historical Novel - Vered Neta 14/11/2022

Season 5 of "The Crown" was dropped down on Netflix. Obviously I binge on it. I'm a historian nerd. However, I found out that writing historical novel/movie/TV is tricky.

Here are the 7 (deadly) sins of writing historical novel/movie/TV

Pitfalls in Writing Historical Novel - Vered Neta What is a historical novel? Some books are full of facts. In these types of stories, the author fills in only the details they cannot know like specific conversations, internal monologues, or physical reactions. Then there are other books that are only vaguely historical.

It’s the season of awards and everyone has his/her favorite one they wish to win. But for me, this year, there is only one that stands above all the rest…BELFAST

BELFAST brings back the magic of movies. It reminds us why we fell in love with them in the first place. It’s a movie that grabs you by throat until you cry and laugh at the same time.

You might even consider it as a Christmas movie (though it’s not set in Christmas, but has some scenes taking place in Christmas).
It has family and love, despair and standing up for what you believe is right and for your values – wouldn’t that be enough to call it a Christmas movie?

More than anything you have a fantastic cast from the youngest (Jude Hill) to the oldest generation (Dame Judi Dench & the fabulous Ciarán Hinds) and if that is not enough you get Caitriona Balfe at her best showing she can be fantastic even when not playing Claire Randall/Fraser.

More than anything BELFAST is a love song to the movies and a world that has passed away, same as Cinema Paradiso was in the’80. It reminds us what movies were all about and shows us that Black & White shouldn’t die and cannot pass away to the forgotten land of technology.

So grab your shoes and buy that popcorn and go and watch BELFAST

SHE KNEW

She knew she had to move on, but couldn’t remember where to.
She knew she was still waiting to say goodbye, but couldn’t remember to who

Her days were foggy but she knew that once there was sun and light and laughter.
She knew that once she was happy, but couldn’t remember when.
She felt as if she is locked in a cage, but couldn’t see it and no one heard her.
She knew she had to move on, but couldn’t remember where to.

And then she heard their voices, saw their faces and she knew it’s time.
She knew that once she had known them, but no more.
She knew they were the ones she was waiting for.

Her heart was filled with joy, her body lighter and she knew the cage around her is gone.

They held her hands and kissed her cheeks and she knew it’s her time.
She closed her eyes and let go and spread her wings and flew.

And all that was left was the light she left behind and the memories that were now with her loved ones.

She was gone and she was free
