We are delighted to announce Magdalena Hylak as the Galway Dancer in Residence for 2023-2024!

In partnership with Galway Arts Centre, Galway County Council, and Galway Dance Project, and funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon Dance Artist Residency Scheme, Magdalena will develop her dance practice in the city and the county between June 2023 and March 2024 and lead workshops and performances, promoting and opening up ideas around contemporary dance for all to enjoy.

Magdalena Hylak is a performer and a choreographer based in Co Galway since 2004. With over 150 performances in 52 venues across 12 countries, she is known nationally for her work with Irish Modern Dance Theatre-John Scott (Dublin) and by touring internationally with Compagnie Nacera Belaza (Paris). Since 2022, she has been developing her work with movement & sound in collaboration with French composer Lionel Kasparian. Their first work ‘A DANCE’ has already been shown in multiple festivals across Ireland and abroad.

SATURDAY PROGRAMME

Plenty to do tomorrow with an installation, two performances and a big dance party to say goodbye to 2023 in style!!

> 12pm Ùna McCarthy, Director and Curator of Limerick City Gallery Of Art will do a guided tour of the current exhibitions, including Angie Smalis & Colin Gee installation 'Florance' (free event)

> 3pm Join us at Thomas St Car Park for a site-specific performance by Magdalena Hylak & Lionel Kasparian full of improvisation, high physicality & experimental sound.

> 7pm final performance at Dance Limerick - 'Òwe' by Junior Yussuf, a highly energetic and personal piece that explores the ancestral proverbial knowledge of the Yoruba people.

> 8pm Let's end the festival week with a bang at our BIG DANCE PARTY!! Dance the night away to the best beats from the 80s and 90s - suggestions highly encouraged!
