3 Ways to Naturally Tint Lip Balm 🎉🎉🎉

1. The simplest way to tint lip balm (pink round balm in picture) is by using mica powder. But mica powder isn’t actually natural. It’s natural power that is synthetically dyed. There are also few ethically sourced mica powders. (Top one on picture)

2. The second way to color a lip balm is by using essential oils that are naturally colored. Oils like Orange, Grapefruit, and German Chamomile have natural colors to them. These will tint the color of the lip balm, but won’t actually color your lips. (Bottom one in picture)

3. The third way is to use natural colorants. Natural colorants are naturally occurring pigments that can be used to color something. The challenge with natural colorants and lip balm is that natural colorants don’t want to mix with oils. (Middle one in picture)

That’s why in our March DIY Shiny Pink Lip Balm recipe we first mix our natural colorant with vegetable glycerin. We then blend it into the lip balm as it cools to make a pretty pink color.

We also make the recipe glossy by adding castor oil. Castor oil is a thick carrier oil that sits on top of the skin leaving a shiny glossy look.
