The No. 7 jersey maintains an iconic presence in the prestigious history of Manchester United. As far back as the early 80s, the jersey was an embodiment of everything the club wanted in a player. It appeared as though the players that wore this jersey were super-players, like super-soldiers who were specially created. In each of the remarkable era of the club, there has been an outstanding No. 7 making marauding, penetrating runs down the right flank.

In his playing days, Ole was reputed for his unique ability to come off the bench and impact a game. The most popular of his goals off the bench was against Bayern Munich in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final, scoring the winning goal of the match in injury time. Ole was labeled a “super-sub” during his days at the club. What’s more, Ole had an excellent sense of goalscoring and could pick at the meanest defenses to snatched a goal, or even two, or even three. He had a superb sense of positioning, having the unique ability to be at the right spot in the box precisely at the right time.

For all of his unparalleled success, Alex Ferguson had a wild reputation for his fiery temper. There are several instances of his anger and was sometimes cancerous.
He even broke David Beckham’s head in a dressing room confrontation. On several occasions, he used obscene swear words on players, always dishing out the craziest words at anyone unlucky enough to be at the receiving end.
Couple this with his ability to be stoic and inflexible, and sometimes horrible with decisions and you have a man whom no one in his right senses would have willingly played for.
How then was such a man able to coach a group of young players who earned very high, had extraordinary talents and sometimes tried to be rebellious? Just how? But the pitch was not the only where SAF excelled.
He was immense off the pitch too. Due to some ‘shrewd’ decisions, he played a significant part in United’s rise from a modest club with a lot of history to a top conglomerate in the football world. Well, as people would eventually realize, Sir. Alex Ferguson was never a manager. He was a leader.

He answers the questions that have bothered many over the years. In Leading, Ferguson extends his success to a more significant part of the world, and by reading, one realizes the man would have excelled, even if he had not ventured into football at all. However, as you will see, Leading does not reveal mind-blowing or magical techniques for winning. The template is relatively familiar.

Paul McGrath is most famed for his time at Aston Villa, or was it Manchester United? No one can decide, but what is undebatable is the excellence of the defensive cornerstone whom Aston Villa fans, at a time, called ‘god’. Another indecisive spot on Paul would be which club he enjoyed more success, with the man marshaling United’s defense for 7 good years but in return, winning the FA Cup in the 1984/85 season; at Aston Villa meanwhile, he played for 7 more years and lifted the League Cup twice with the first of these triumphs coming over former club, Manchester United. These debates can keep running as long as you want, but that would best be overlooked.

Many regard David Beckham as one of the best players to have played in England and America during his time. It is quite difficult to forget the Manchester United free-kick specialist with his unique looks and charms. After all the glitz and glam, however, fans wanted to know the unknown story of the iconic football player.

Tommy Taylor is renowned as one of Manchester United’s finest ever center-forwards, having achieved a remarkable amount in a short career which was tragically curtailed by the Munich air crash in 1958. John Kennedy is a passionate United fan who recognized that Taylor had led a far more interesting life than many of the young players who were sadly lost that day, and wanted to write a biography to ensure that the Barnsley man was not forgotten.

Rio Ferdinand is widely accepted as one of the first defenders to start his team’s attack from the base of the midfield. This was possible due to his highly impressive range of passing as well as his sense of football. His footballing ingenuity has earned him a legendary status in the football world, placing him above fellow defenders in his prime.

Brian Hughes regards Tommy Taylor as perhaps the greatest center-forward of all time. He was motivated to write this book by his feeling that Taylor was often overlooked when great players of the past were being discussed. This was partly due to Taylor’s tragic and untimely death in the Munich air crash, but nonetheless, Hughes does an excellent job of setting the record straight and putting the case for his hero. The book is never less than interesting, containing a remarkable range of quotations from Taylor himself alongside the thoughts of numerous high-profile contemporaries.

Few football players have reached enormous fame and success as David Beckham. This is evident in the fact that his life cut across all segments – sports, glitz, glamour, charity, and you name it. However, as is the case with such men, we hardly know their backstory, although, with Beckham, he had always been a celebrity, that’s about it. How does this book by Tracey Savell Reavis fare? Does it only rave continuously on what we have all known about David, or is there a lot more to discover?

In ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’, Soren Frank has created an unorthodox, but undeniably fascinating, history of Manchester United. Frank is a Professor in Comparative Literature at the University of Southern Denmark, and his academic credentials shine through via some of the references which appear throughout the book, not to mention the remarkable vocabulary which he cannot resist exhibiting from time to time. Nonetheless, this is not a dry product of the type of research that can be carried out in a university library: it is a labour of love written by a man who has supported United since he was seven years old.

Wayne had his differences with Sir Alex and some players towards the years, but all of his conflicts were resolved in silence. Wayne Rooney is not a fiery person like Roy Keane or authoritarian like Sir Alex.

Giggs is the most decorated player of all time, having won 34 trophies, some of which are 13 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, 9 FA Community Shields, and 2 UEFA Champions League cups. In his peak, needless to say, he was a perfect masterpiece in midfield, seemingly indomitable and impossible to play against in his favorite position on the left side of the midfield.

Few can boast as illustrious a football career both on and off the pitch as Welshman Mark Hughes, arguably one of the most colorful players and managers to ever grace the game. The legendary Manchester United striker has played for seven different prestigious European clubs and has managed six clubs, as well as his country, in a career spanning 38 years. He has a string of awards and trophies to his name, including being inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame and receiving the OBE.

Paul Scholes is an England footballer who spent his entire playing career with Manchester United, making him a legend for the club. Scholes was born in England, Salford to be precise, on November 16th 1974. As it stands, he holds the record for the fourth-highest appearances for the Manchester club. He also played for the England national team for seven years, making 66 appearances, including two World Cups and two European Cups. Scholes has never played second-fiddle during his playing days.
Scholes is one of the most decorated footballers of all time, having an incredible cabinet of 22 trophies, including eight league trophies, 2 UEFA Champions League trophies, one super cup and many more as a midfield maestro. At the England national team too, Scholes was outstanding, quietly but significantly pulling strings from the middle of the park. He retired permanently from football in 2013.

The title of former Manchester United winger Keith Gillespie’s moving autobiography might be thought almost impossible in today’s financial climate, with the average United first-team player earning around £7 million in the 2018/9 season alone. On top of this, current players can earn extra money from sponsorship deals, image rights, and advertising. In Gillespie’s day, wages were markedly lower, but he still calculates that he managed to squander over £7.2 million during his career, culminating in his being declared bankrupt in 2010. ‘How not to be a Football Millionaire’ is an honest account of his career, describing some glorious highs alongside the events leading to his financial downfall.

Gary Neville is a legend at Old Trafford and his entire life, even his childhood although subliminally, was spent for Man United. If Gary’s life was classed chronologically (birth, early childhood, childhood, young adulthood, adulthood…), the entire phases would speak Red and his love for Manchester United. However, purposefully, his life can only be grouped into three: background; football career; and personal life. Of course, there is a family, but it is fused with his love for the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is arguably the greatest player to have come out of Norway, gracing Norwegian clubs Clausenengen and Molde before moving on to Manchester United in the year 1996. He was nicknamed ‘the baby-faced assassin’ as he was very formidable in front of goal despite his innocent looks. Solskjaer’s most memorable moment in football came in injury time of the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final, where he scored the winning last-minute goal against Bayern Munich, completing a remarkable comeback and winning The Treble for United.
