Doing it in Doha
Doha is a thriving City, alive with possibility! Follow us and see Doha, as you have never seen this
Qatar is an Islamic country, home to people of many faiths. Ramadan and Eid are well-known Islamic holy days amongst all, in Qatar.
Ever wondered about other significant dates in Islam? Tonight is one such holy evening (15th of Shabaan/8 April).
Starting after sunset prayer (Maghrib), Muslims in Qatar and around the world observe
'Shab e Barat' or 'Lailat Al Baraa'. In English this is, the 'Night of Forgiveness'.
What does this entail? Muslims will voluntarily pray the entire night asking Allah (Almighty God) to bless and forgive all sins.
In Iran, this holy night is called 'Nim Shaβban' and in Malaysia, 'Nisfy Syaβban'. In Turkey it is called 'Berat Kandili'.
Muslims will be united in observing this blessed and powerful 'Night of Forgiveness'.
Doing it in Doha wishes all fellow Muslims a blessed Shab e Bharat Mubarak.

Why do some countries start Ramadan a day apart from each other?π
π
This has to do with the spotting of the new moon in that country.πΆπ¦π΄
Muslims follow a lunar calendar, and moon-sighting methodology can lead to countries declaring the start of Ramadan a day or two apartππ
In Qatar, leadership is taken by The Crescent Sighting Committee based in the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.πΆπ¦π
A day before the anticipated date on the lunar calendar, the Committee in the Ministry publishes a notice, namely:
"The Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf has called upon all Muslims in Qatar to sight the crescent of Ramadan on Thursday evening. Whoever witnesses the crescent should head to the headquarters of the Ministry of Awqaf to report his testimony".ππ·
Formal announcements are then made.ππ

Khubz is that Arabian flat bread, we see in abundance, throughout Qatar. ππ
'Khubz' is actually the generic Arabic word for 'bread' overall but the flatbread we know it to refer to, is the most popular.ππ
Pillowy soft and puffed when fresh, khubz is used as a utensil to scoop food at meals. Harees and hummus are favorites in this respect.ππ
Perfect for dipping, scooping and stuffing, khubz is a favorite in the Arabian Peninsula and a must have for anyone visiting Qatar. π

With over 2000 mosques in Qatar, the beautiful sound of the Adhaan is heard by all in the country, 5 times a day. π
The Adhaan is the Islamic call to prayer, made by a 'muazzin' from a mosque at specific times a day.π€π
A muazzin is a designated man who is assigned the task to perform the adhaan from the minaret of a specific mosque.ππ
Adhaan has been practiced since the dawn of Islam. π
What does the word, 'adhaan' mean?
It comes from the Arabic root word of ΚΎadhina Ψ£ΩΨ°ΩΩΩ. This means "to listen, to hear, be informed about".ππ·
Any other info?
Whilst significant as the Islamic call for prayer, it is not simply an announcement but rather, an open invitation to Islam five times daily throughout the world. β₯οΈ
Adhaan is actually the first thing to be recited in the ears of a newborn baby and also itβs often the first thing recited in a new home.π‘
The Adhaan, will always remain an integral part of the Islamic faith.ππβ₯οΈ
Below is the English translation of the Adhaan, line by line.
You are welcome.ππ‘
(Ps: Remember to stay home and stay safe! Mosques are closed in the interest of safety).

National Dish of Qatar? πππ
Decadent layers of rice, with pungent spices and delicious chicken are just one part of this divine national dish.ππ
"Machboos ala Dajaj", actually means spiced chicken and rice. π―π
It is similar to biryani from India but 2 key ingredients make majboos very unique.π€πΎπ
The first is loomi. These are limes which have been boiled and sun dried. ππ
This adds exquisitely tangy and smoky flavors, which permeate every grain of rice and blends beautifully with the chicken βοΈβΊοΈ
The second is Baharat. This is a pungent spice made from roasting black pepper, paprika, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon, amongst others.ππ
Available in mutton, beef or fish varieties, chicken is our favorite!π
Chicken majboos is also the national dish of Kuwait and Bahrain. πΉπ
