One of the world’s most popular tourist destinations has just made it a little easier to visit.

Hawai'i has had a fraught relationship with holidaymakers - exacerbated by the ebb and flow of visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic. But for vaccinated travellers ready to treat the US island state and its residents with respect, a beautiful holiday awaits.

Tourists no longer need to complete a health questionnaire on Hawaii’s Safe Travels programme, which has been fielding arrivals since 2020. In another sign of relaxation, the quarantine period for domestic US travellers has been cut from 10 to five days, the Hawai'i Tourism Authority (HTA) announced last week.

Yesterday, however, the destination that was once the home to former James Bond star, Roger Moore, was grey and cold. Its views over a string of mountain peaks that unfold from Bietschhorn to Mont Blanc via the Matterhorn, blocked by non-stop snowfall, leaving little distinction between skiing on or off-piste.

This week much of the Alps and the Pyrenees have experienced similar conditions: "best snow ever," I hear all around me; "it's dumping down!" others cry.

Patagonia in Argentina is a favourite among professional snowboarders and skiers, with New Zealand following close behind.
Both have excellent steak and wine and offer more than just ski resorts.

So while Europe does have a long-standing reputation for hosting the best ski season, if you live in another part of the world, there are plenty of options for you too.
