Online Teaching Tip: maintain structure and deadlines with your classes. Iāve heard from students that many professors have put all of the semester remaining work up - due the last day of the semester. In most cases, this is a stressful recipe for failure for both the students and the professor. While you can show āthe big pictureā on your revised syllabus, maintaining a weekly schedule with assignment deadlines makes the work manageable and enjoyable. And easier for the professor to maintain grades and see who needs assistance.
Online Teaching Tip of The Day: Using Remind to contact your students. You can text with students but personal information (phone numbers) are never shown. You can group text assignments, info regarding zoom meetings, add attachments, and even set up groups. https://www.remind.com/resources/remote-learning/
How to use zoom for theater scene work.
Online Teaching Tip of the Day: Podcasting! You can podcast right from your smart device, add others to the conversation, interview, and more! The free Anchor app can turn your smartphone into a basic studio which will record, allow others to join in from their phones or laptops, do basic editing, add music, and give you a link to distribute your finished work. You can record a lesson and interview an expert in the field. Think of the possibilities beyond podcasting! A group chat, or a family check in. Fun and easy to use. https://medium.com/anchor/remote-podcasting-just-got-easier-introducing-record-with-friends-2-0-from-anchor-45b5bef4b536
Remote podcasting just got easier: Introducing Record With Friends 2.0 from Anchor Anchor is making it easier to record your conversations with anyone, wherever they are in the world, from any device.
Teaching Online tip of the day: Donāt lower your standards. Be consistent and teach to your course outcomes. Have a discussion board (or zoom) and an assignment each week. If a student misses, that is between you and the student. But keep the course going. If all of them miss, keep the class going. Donāt lower your standards. You can help them succeed individually. Even if the Dept of Ed says grades donāt count, keep the students accountable. This is more than a grade right now, itās a commitment to learning.

Online Teaching Tip of the Day: Laugh! Be yourself. Don't redo a video because you made an error or your dog barked. Your students will love that. They want to know you are real, not a computer. Be the same person you are in the classroom but in pajamas at home with a cup of coffee. Students care more that their teachers care and connect with them then that they are experts in their field.
College/HS online teaching Tip of the day: Use discussion boards to build community and keep connection within the class. You can pose questions for the class to discuss; or have them upload videos/presentations/projects to share and discuss. Vary your due dates so all students must make an initial post by Wednesday, then reply to two classmates by Friday (or I do Sunday!). Posts should be 3-8 sentences, spell checked. I also ask students to share an outside source in the board (a video, article that they found online).
Presentations are best shared in discussion board so the whole class can view and give feedback. You can even put whoever is presenting in charge of encouraging conversation.
Hereās a recent source regarding discussion boards in our new health crisis: https://www.insidehighered.com/digital-learning/article/2019/03/27/new-approaches-discussion-boards-aim-dynamic-online-learning
New approaches to discussion boards aim for dynamic online learning experiences Instructors and students alike are growing tired of the discussion board formula. Innovative approaches point to the potential for more meaningful online learning experiences.

College/HS Tip of the day: wakelet.com Wakelet is free and super simple to teach and use. Students can create projects (similar to blogs) in which they write their own text but drop in embedded content such as videos, articles, tweets, podcasts, and images. Itās like writing a paper, but the embedded media examples replace your source links. Students can also upload their own content (videos, photos). Visibility can be set to unlisted so only those with a link can see it. The platform can be used on smartphones as well as laptops. I use it in place of papers and have students share and discuss in discussion board. I also have them publish for their digital portfolio.
Wakelet ā Save, organize and share content Save, organize and share content from across the web with Wakelet. Save articles, videos, images, Tweets and more, organize them into stunning collections, and revisit them anywhere, anytime.

The following is a document that has links to read alouds and access to online texts from Modules 3 and 4 for grades K15; it's better to simplify and provide a high-quality experience using a worthy text rather than trying to re-create the lesson as it just won't translate from classroom to video.
