All schools and the District Office are closed to students and the public from December 21 to January 4. The first day back is January 5. Washington Middle College High Schools follows a slightly different instructional calendar in conjunction with Sac City College as their Winter Recess is December 21 to January 10.
WUSD will not be serving meals during the winter recess. However, our Food Services Department will be providing students and families extra food with the regularly scheduled meal distribution on Friday, December 18th.
Here are some other ways families can find food resources during the winter recess.
Visit the Yolo Food Bank Page to find locations throughout the county:https://yolofoodbank.org/get-help/
Subscribe to 2-1-1 Yolo Fresh Text and receive alerts with information a day ahead of scheduled meal distribution. Click here to learn more about Yolo Fresh Text: https://www.211sacramento.org/211/2-1-1-yolo-county-fresh-text/
The fresh text alert is the easiest way to receive pop-up food distribution information with the least restriction. All food distributions are contactless, drive-through, or walk-through (with the appropriate physical distancing requirements). Face coverings are required; income qualifications, registrations, and proof of citizenship are not.
The Yolo Food Bank is here to help any Yolo County resident in need of food assistance. Through their network of partner agencies, programs, and collaboration with Yolo 2-1-1, they can provide referrals specific to need and region. Please call 530-668-0690 or email [email protected].
Families can also contact the WUSD Food Services Department for additional assistance and questions at (916) 375-7604 ext.1060 or [email protected].

Good evening Riverbank Families,
We alerted you to a small brush fire on the levy that caused the evacuation of our site this afternoon. All staff and students on campus were safely evacuated. MOT has been on site and has cleared staff and students to be on campus tomorrow.
Tomorrow, September 9, 2020 will be a normal day of school with classes beginning at 8:30 am. All staff wishing to work from their classrooms are welcome to do so. Our school office will be open from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Kidzone and the Learning Center are open for normal activities. Grab ‘n Go lunches will continue to be distributed tomorrow between 10:30 am 12-30 pm at the back of the campus in the bus loop.
Thank you and have a nice night!

Demystifying communication between teachers and staff. Understanding how to connect and access resources for your student in a virtual environment. In addition to teachers, parents will learn of resources available to them to help them navigate accessing resources to help with dealing with COVID-19 and other challenges families face during this difficult time in our community. Parents will learn how common it is to need additional support, especially during virtual learning, and about WUSD's commitment to support the needs of all students and families.

The current heatwave in our local area will continue throughout this week just as we prepare to kick-off the 2020-21 school year on Wednesday, August 19, with Virtual Learning.
As such, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the organization that runs the state’s electric grid, can call for rotating outages statewide to protect the stability of the grid. These outages may last between 1 to 2 hours for most customers. These are not Public Safety Power Shutoffs due to extreme fire danger and are not related to any issues with PG&E’s equipment or its ability to deliver energy locally.
Undoubtedly, rotating outages will place an additional burden on our students, staff, and families as we prepare to open the new school year. IF the outages disrupt your Virtual Learning, we want to encourage you to take pause. Give yourself some time and grace to calm anxious feelings and take care of yourself so that you are ready to pick up where you left off when power is eventually restored.
We encourage our entire school community to do your part to save energy and reduce usage by following these helpful tips: https://www.wusd.k12.ca.us/announcements/?capostid=26104

****NEW FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL UPDATE****
School will start August 19th
📢📢 New First Day of School for 2020-21 School Year
The negotiating teams for the Washington Unified School District (WUSD) and the West Sacramento Teachers Association (WSTA) have been working feverishly over the last several weeks to develop an agreement that best serves the needs of all students while ensuring the utmost degree of health and safety for all staff.
As of July 29, 2020, a tentative agreement has been agreed upon to push the start of the 2020-2021 school year back one week to Wednesday, August 19, 2020. Students’ last day of school will now be June 4, 2021, only 1 day after the already approved calendar. This decision will provide a schedule for seven (7) days of training, faculty meetings, planning and collaboration for all staff in WUSD to be fully prepared in the current health and safety regulations and to begin Virtual Learning on the first day of school on August 19.
✅First Day of School August 19, 2020✅
✅Last Day of School June 4, 2021✅
Washington Middle College High School is the only school that will continue to follow its regularly approved instructional calendar as it is aligned with the Sacramento City College instructional calendar.
Both teams are scheduled to continue working together throughout the week as they finalize additional details. We want to extend our gratitude to our WSTA colleagues for their efforts throughout this process and their continued support as we move to the next phase of preparations for the next school year.
