Here in the Makati Science High School English Club, we value inclusivity and support the LGBTQ+ community, which is why we are advocating the inclusion of pronouns in social media bios. Doing so means that you reject the idea that cisgender identities are the only natural and correct genders. This also prevents other people from misgendering you.

For cisgender people (those who identify as the same gender assigned at birth), you may ask, “Should I put my pronouns in my bio even if my gender is already obvious?” Well, people won’t know for sure what you identify as unless you tell them. Also, this is not just about clearing up your identity—it’s also about normalizing pronouns for transgender and non-binary gendered people. It may seem small, but it’s a step to lessen the stigmatization of the LGBTQ+ community.
