TESCOM BOSS LAUDS TEACH FOR NIGERIA, PROMISES MORE SUPPORT
The Chairman, Ogun State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede has lauded Teach For Nigeria (TFN) for its collaborative efforts, initiatives and immense contributions to the development of academic excellence.
Evangelist Ifede made this known during a courtesy visit paid by the management team of TFN, at the Commission’s Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the organisation’s impactful role in the education sector had continued to yield positive results.
He promised to encourage the school leaders to participate in the body’s training programmes for better output of students, enjoining the organisation to present their working paper, to enable the Commission to contribute its quota.
He said, "The Commission is ready to support the programmes as far as it is initiated by Teach for Nigeria. All we want from you is to present your working paper. We are ready to encourage our school leaders to participate in your programmes’’.
The Chairman appreciated the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his commitment towards the success of the education sector among the comity of states, urging TFN to keep supporting his administration in taking the state to an enviable position.
Speaking, the Head of the School Leadership Development Programme of the organisation, Dr. Chinedu Oluwadamilola, said that the purpose of the visit was to liaise with the Commission to encourage the school leaders to participate in fellowship programmes, assuring to equip them in running transformative schools for learners to excel.
She expressed optimism that every child would have access to quality education, being one of its vision statements, urging the school leaders to be proactive in transforming the schools.
TESCOM ENLISTS OVER 1,000 OGUN TEACH INTERNS
As part of efforts to address the shortage of teachers in public secondary schools in Ogun State, the state's Teaching Service Commission, (TESCOM), has commenced the process of enlisting 1, 200 new interns under the Ogun Teach programme to teach in public secondary schools across the state.
The programme, which started in 2021, had initially injected 2,000 interns into the teaching profession.
The Chairman, TESCOM, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, while fielding questions from pressmen in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said the shortage of teachers in public secondary schools was being addressed with the deployment of interns to teach in schools and improve the standard of teaching in the state.
Evangelist Ifede informed that the selection process was seamless and merit based, explaining that applicants were invited if they meet the prerequisite of the cut-off mark, pointing out that the programme had made positive impact by improving the teacher-student ratio, effective tutelage and better academic records, among others.
He advised the new interns to be diligent in their various schools, saying the 2-year internship would be a probation period for permanent employment by the state government.
Speaking on behalf of other interns, who had received their posting letters, Mr. Osukoya Emmanuel to Remo Secondary School, Sagamu (Snr) and Mrs. Oyebade Olatundun to Oronna High School, Ilaro, (Snr), appreciated the state government for the opportunity, promising to discharge their duties accordingly

The Chairman, Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, has charged teachers in secondary schools across the state to discover talents in students, aside from their academic routine.
Ifede gave this charge during monitoring and evaluation exercise by the Commission to Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, noted that talent discovery would also boost students’ chances to excel in life.
Ifede, who was represented by Commissioner IV in the Commission, Hon. Adeleye Ademola, challenged teachers to work at grooming learners through a robust knowledge and exposure to engender quality education, encouraged them to discharge of their statutory duties without fear or favour and reflect on their noble call as a great service to humanity.
TESCOM boss admonished them to improve on pupils' Higher Education Potential (HEP), which is a yardstick for school performance, adding that Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration would always prioritise education in the state.
"Teaching is a noble profession and we know that teachers are builders of the future. So, it is imperative to prioritise their welfare to aid better performance which will invariably reflect in the quality and standard of education in the state", he said.
Speaking on behalf of other staff, the Principal of Junior School, Mrs. Jokotade Hammod, appreciated the team, promising to correct the anomalies and improve on them.
Other schools monitored were, AUD Comprehensive College, Iganmode Grammar School, Iju Ebiye High School, Unity High School, Ojumo Community High School, Iko Gateway Secondary School, Tayese Community High School, Oronna High School, Itolu Community High School, Yewa College, Asakanran Grammar School, Oluaso High School, Ajoda High School, Community High School, Alaye High School, among others, in Yewa North and South Local Government Areas of the state.

TESCOM BOSS CHARGES STAKEHOLDERS ON EDUCATION EXCELLENCE
Stakeholders in the education sector in Ogun State have been charged to put more efforts in achieving excellence in public secondary schools across the state.
Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, gave the charge at a stakeholders’ meeting comprising, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), National Association of Staff Union (NASU), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, appreciating their immense contributions to the development of the sector.
In his remarks, ANCOPPS President, Mr. Adeniyi Adekoya, appreciated TESCOM for creating enabling environment for its members, calling on government to continue to prioritise the welfare of teaching and non-teaching staff in the state, as well as employ more staff to boost the teaching profession.
"ANCOPSS is driving the education policy of the government which has transformed the sector into an enviable position. We will continue to support the government of the day to achieve more", he said.
Contributing, the state Chairman, ASUSS, Comrade Felix Agbesanwa and his counterpart in TUC, Comrade Akeem Lasisi, lauded the government for the regular payment of benefits to their members.
