Subject: April 10: Being Q***r and Autistic

Dear PFLAG friends,

Spring is here, allegedly, and while we continue to await the sunshine and flowers, let’s take this time of hope to join together to learn, support and advocate for each other and the LGBTQ+ people in our lives.

April is Autism Acceptance Month, which aims for acceptance and inclusion of neurodiversity. Autistic people are more likely to identify as LGBTQ+ and, unfortunately, to face greater difficulty in coming out to their families. See this article in Psychology Today:
https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/talking-about-trauma/202107/why-identifying-q***r-can-be-harder-those-autism?amp

Jean-Marie Navetta at PFLAG National has put together a great joint interview with two autistic q***r advocates, Lydia X. Z. Brown and Kayley Whalen, which we’ll watch Sunday, April 10. We will meet in person, but also have a Zoom option if that doesn’t work for you. But really, we would be delighted to see you IRL! Here are the details:

Sunday, April 10, 3-5 pm, St. John’s Episcopal Church, 574 S Sheldon Road, Plymouth 48170
Or register for the Zoom session here:

Our next meeting will be May 15 (skipping to the third Sunday to avoid a conflict with Mother’s Day), when we hope to feature K-12 LGBTQ-affirming books and offer a publisher’s discount.

Thank you all you are doing to advocate for LGBTQ+ people! Wishing you peace and love,
