Today at 4:15 pm, two individuals were victims of a shooting at 95th Street and 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge. The female victim was shot in the leg and the male victim was shot in the right arm. Both victims were transported to the hospital and their injuries appear to be non-life threatening. The male shooter fled the scene and is still at-large. NYPD is currently reviewing multiple videos and investigating witness statements at a very active crime scene. I will continue to update the community. Thank you NYPD for your immediate response!

On behalf of Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny, Richie Barsamian, Director of Community Affairs, presented Frank Milea with a NYS Assembly citation for his dedication and service to the senior community of Dyker Heights and Bay Ridge. Frank founded the Friendship Club in 2016 and is currently the leader with over 100 members who gather weekly. Thank you Frank for your service to our community!

We join the nation in honoring those who gave their lives to protect our freedom today. Memorial Day serves as a reminder of the remarkable people who selflessly served our country. Let’s be grateful for our freedom and remember their sacrifice.

Today I joined both Republicans and Democrats to renew our support for Melanie's Law which would protect family and household members of victims of domestic violence by allowing courts to issue restraining orders. The proposal is named after Melanie Chianese, a young mother killed by her mother's ex-boyfriend. A heart wrenching story that this would help prevent from ever happening again.

Anyone who murders a law enforcement officer should, at the very least, live the rest of their life behind bars for such a heinous and despicable act. Our law enforcement officers are under attack, whether it be on the streets or in our correctional facilities, and the dangerous rhetoric about ‘defunding the police’ and disrespecting our police officers is placing them in more dangerous situations.

It is with great honor to vote on the resolution declaring May 22nd Italian-American Day in the State of New York.
In 1989 Italy became my temporary and welcoming home when I finally escaped the iron curtain. A beautiful country with great food, wonderful people and a fabulous lifestyle. Living in Italy for that short while helped me realize how to truly live and enjoy life!

Since the inception of our nation nearly 250 years ago the men and women of our armed forces across all branches have answered the call of duty to defend our values, liberty and sovereignty. Whether the Air Force, Marines, Army, Navy or Coast Guard each has played a preeminent role in protecting us. Thank you to all who have served and those currently serving for your sacrifices and valor.
