Hairbyjoymarie: The PERM page
Welcome to The Perm Page.
This is where hair transformations happen and clients feel an extra pep in their step after seeing their straight hair gain some body and bounce.
When my guy clients ask for a certain wave or curl, I first need to ask how long their (current) hair is because that will be one of the main determining factors on whether their desired look can be achieved. This chart shows the minimum lengths the hair has to be in order to fit certain rods around it. For looser looks you need at least 5” of hair. For the tightest curls, the minimum hair length should be about 2”.

I used different rods because the clients hair was different length. Find the rod that the hair can wrap around at least 2.5x.
This beauty had hair down to her waist. She was getting pretty waves by braiding her hair but wanted a bit more texture so we went with a medium size perm rod (lavender/pink). To start, I cut a few inches off her length, but I was still stretching up high into the sky to wrap from ends to roots 😅😲.

This client loves his tight red-rod perm look. His hair was about 5.5-6.5” all around and this was 4months of new growth as you can see where it’s straight.

This beautiful client had enough hair for 2-3 people. She had a previous perm about 14months ago and it was time to get refreshed. We decided on the orange rods for a slightly looser curl from her previous curl. She is about 90%diffused and has Unite Leave in conditioner and Unite Boing Curl defining cream.
