At the end of the semester, the LIS 105 students shall be able to:

1. Trace orally and through writing the historical development of organizing information during the antiquity period to the modern times.
2. State the importance of organizing information through cataloging and classification of information resources.
3. Familiarize the use of Resource Description and Access in doing descriptive cataloging of information resources.
ANS.
Organizing information is important because it makes for easier access to look up the information. It also helps you become more organized in one’s thoughts as an individual. Easier and quicker to retain and refer back to.
Resource Description and Access is a package of data elements, guidelines, and instruction for creating library and cultural heritage resource metadata that are well-formed according to international and models for user-focused linked data applications

PRELIM AND MIDTERM EXAM
At the end of the semester, the SPT 103 students shall be able to:
1. Define preservation and conservation and be able to differentiate its differences relative to library and information science field.
2. Identify the nature of different information resources relative to its physical characteristics.
3. Determine what the different elements that may destroy information resources are.
Ans.
Preservation is a set of preventive conservation activities, aimed at prolonging the life of the record, book, or object while making while making objects as possible.
Conservation is a systematic program planning that can be developed to hand the library collection to keep them iin good condition and ready to use.
Preservation and Conservation can be used interchangeably. Preservation means regular maintenance of library materials while conservation means as the remedial treatment and restoration of the already damaged material.
Basically, preservation is a planned and managed activity to ensure that the collection of library materials can continue to be used as long as possible. It is an effort so that all printed and non printed collection materials in a library can last a long time and are not easily damaged. Conservation is a systematic program planning that can be developed to hand the library collection to keep them in good condition and ready to use.
