The Department of Housing, Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, Department of Economic Development, and UniteCT ran at the Harford Eversource Marathon last Saturday. We were able to raise over $700 for United Way to support homeless shelters across CT.

Thanks to the HMF Events (Hartford Marathon Foundation) and Eversource Energy for a great event!

We also made a quick pit stop at our awesome UniteCT Mobile Bus, which travels across CT to help renters and landlords apply for the program. For more information about UniteCT's rental and electric utility assistance, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/DOH/DOH/Programs/UniteCT

This afternoon, I joined the Connecticut Department of Housing Commissioner in Waterbury to highlight the UniteCT program which provides tenants opportunities to access rent relief.

As a state, we must commit to getting resources to the communities in need it most, to keep people in their homes and to get cash in the hands of our small landlords.

New updates have been made to UniteCT, which include:
-Covering arrears accrued since the national emergency was declared on March 13, 2020, rather than only those accrued in the last six months
-Reimbursing landlords for 100% of covered arrears, rather than only 85%
-Covering three full months of prospective rent, rather than requiring certain tenants to contribute a portion of their income
-Protecting tenants by preventing evictions for nonpayment of rent during the months covered by the prospective rent payments
-Relying where possible, on information about an applicant’s enrollment in other state programs or about median household income in an applicant’s neighborhood to further streamline the application process
-Continuing to consider waiving the $10,000 limit on rent assistance, on a case-by-case basis, for households with extenuating circumstances.

Please share widely with your networks!
