Happy 84th Birthday to America’s Tank Division! The rich history of the 1st Armored Division began with its activation at Fort Knox, Kentucky, in 1940. Since then, #IronSoldiers have defended the world from the Horn of Africa to the beaches of Italy during World War II, and earned its nickname as #AmericasTankDivision in the Persian Gulf War as the leading armored force of OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM. Old Ironsides continued its storied legacy from supporting NATO peacekeeping missions to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Serbia, and has deployed multiple times in support of the Global War on Terror. #ICYMI: Army Heritage Month On June 12, 2024, Fort Bliss and the 1st Armored Division celebrated #ArmyHeritageMonth. It was an opportunity for Soldiers and Civilians to learn about other cultures and people. Representatives showcased their culture through displays, performances, and food. Volunteers from different cultural backgrounds treated attendees to displays with relevant educational information, unique demonstrations from their heritage, and a buffet of cultural cuisines. Display tables also featured materials to educate observers on multiple heritage observances such as Black History Month, Pride Month, and Women’s History Month. "The interesting thing about our nation is that it's a nation of immigrants. The immigrants and diversity within our country has always been the secret to our success as a nation, which is not different to our success as an Army,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Light, senior enlisted advisor for the 1st AD and Fort Bliss. “Coming together this month to celebrate all the different cultures and heritages that exist across the force is imperative to reinforce that message to our Soldiers." #ItsBetterAtBliss #IronSoldiers #FORSCOM #USArmy

2024 Sullivan Cup
Competition Drives Excellence! 👏 From April 8 to April 14, 2024, the 1st Armored Division hosted the Iron Soldier Best Bradley and Best Abrams Crew Competition. This event brought together the division’s finest tank and Bradley crews for a grueling test of skill, teamwork, and precision. The Best Abrams Crew is from 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team. It is led by Sgt. 1st Class Drugich, flanked by Sgt. Flaherty, and supported by Spc. Yznaga and Spc. Butler. The Best Bradley Crew is from 2nd Squadron, 13th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, compromised of Sgt. 1st Class Eagleman, Spc. Houston, and Spc. Sutton. "The BSB (Brigade Support Battalion) is known for its medical treatment support, but we're also soldiers so we need to be ready to fight in a [contested] environment," said 1st Lt. Daniel Torano, a preventative medicine officer assigned to Charlie Company, 47th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division. The 47th BSB executed a brigade support activities exercise at Drawsko Combat Training Center, Poland on Jan. 29-Feb. 9, 2024.
