Utah Legislature will use rapid COVID-19 testing for lawmakers 24/10/2020

Our legislators are planning how they will rapidly test every legislator for the 2021 General Legislative Session. I understand the need for this kind of preparation, but are they also making plans for how to get these frequent, rapid tests for schools, long term care facilities, and other essential workplaces as well?

Let's get frequent, rapid testing to all essential workplaces and workers so we can keep everyone safe, not just the people with the easiest access to all kinds of perks and services.

In ‘Unprecedented Move’ For A Conservative State, Utah Leaders Voice Support For Climate Action 09/10/2020

On Wednesday, more than 100 civic, religious, and political leaders in Utah signed on to the Utah Roadmap, a 7-point plan developed to help address air pollution, the impact of climate change, and rural economic needs. It showcases the "Utah Way" of listening, collaborating, and acting to find solutions.

This is another example of how Utahns can work together on complex issues, and is exactly the kind of collaboration I want to participate in as a legislator.

In ‘Unprecedented Move’ For A Conservative State, Utah Leaders Voice Support For Climate Action More than 100 state leaders from across the political spectrum gathered virtually Wednesday morning to sign what they are calling the first-ever Utah Climate and Clean Air Compact — urging the state to become a national leader on climate action.

Remember SB2001 from December 2019? It increased sales tax on food, and House District 59's incumbent, Val Peterson, voted yes on that bill. I volunteered with the referendum to place that law on the ballot for voters to approve or disapprove. The referendum volunteers collected more than enough verified signatures to place it on the ballot.

I still oppose increasing sales tax on food. Please support me to represent Utah families in the legislature.

Bodycam shows Salt Lake City police shooting 13-year-old boy with autism 22/09/2020

I'm grateful that Chief Mike Brown has said the police department will analyze this horrifying incident "through a lens of learning." I certainly hope so, and our society needs to do so as well. The sooner we learn from these incidents and implement meaningful reforms against police brutality, the less often these incidents will happen and the greater trust the police force will have from the general public. Mike Lee seeks a ‘shot clock’ to speed federal environmental reviews 18/09/2020

This legislation by Mike Lee is obviously pandering to an anti-environment president. It's not likely to pass, but if it did, the legislation would force the environmental review process through, making it harder to accurately assess environmental risks. As your representative in House District 59, I will always stand for careful deliberation in crucial decisions, especially concerning long-term environmental impacts.

Mike Lee seeks a ‘shot clock’ to speed federal environmental reviews Professional basketball invented the shot clock to force teams to pick up the pace of the game. Now, Sen. Mike Lee wants a different kind of shot clock to speed up federal environmental reviews.
