Hello! My name is Kathleen Schaefer and I am running for one of the seats on the Dixon School Board, DPS #170. Go Dukes!

My family moved to Dixon in 2000 and our three daughters all were educated in Dixon Public Schools. I have a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master's degree in Child Development and Family Living. I have spent most of my adult life working with children of all ages.

I currently serve as a member of our school board. In May of last year, I was appointed to complete the term of a member who moved out of state. During these past months, I have learned a lot about being a board member! I care deeply about our schools and community. I believe a strong community goes hand in hand with a strong public school system. My job as a programming coordinator at the Dixon Public Library allows me to talk with families on a daily basis. I hear about their children's successes and challenges in school. I am also fortunate to be able to be in our schools and talk with our teachers. No school is perfect, but I believe we have teachers and staff who care about our students. They want them to succeed. As a member of the school board, I will work to provide support for both our students and our staff.

We as a community have the shared experience of living through a global pandemic. Regardless of your views, it is an experience we share. We have lived through years of incredible change. Our families and schools need stability. They need school board members who can listen to the facts presented and make decisions on behalf of all students. I believe I can do just that as a member of our school board.

I hope I have your vote on April 4th!
