Tonight in Music Mania 🎤🎧🎵 at Remarkable After Dark, we listened to 45 hit songs from 2022. There were SO many good ones this year, but the votes are in and our top 3 were: Bam Bam by Camila Cabello, Sunroof by Nicky Youre, and Beautiful Love by Justin Bieber! 🎵🎵🎵

It has been SO cold (even in South Florida where a lot of our members live) so we were inspired to draw our own ice castles last night in Art & Soul! While the Floridians are shivering, we really feel for our Remarkable friends who live in New York, Connecticut and Canada who told us it was BELOW ZERO there today ⛄️🌡 Stay warm out there! ❄❄❄🥶🥶🥶

Today was such a special day - our cheeks still hurt from smiling! 😁 In our Adulting 101 class, we have been working on making connections and forming genuine relationships with our peers. The session culminated in a hands-on activity where our participants were given a budget and a Remarkable friend to shop for. We spent the last few weeks having conversations with one another and sharing our likes/interests so that we could find a great and meaningful gift for our Remarkable friend. Some of the skills we focused on were: considering others, making decisions, prioritizing, planning, time management, paying attention, flexibility, budgeting, gift giving & receiving, and social skills. We also learned how to use Amazon, how to write an appropriate holiday card, and so much more. This morning, we finally got to open our gifts on camera together and thank our friends for such thoughtful gifts... and tonight is our annual Holiday Pajama Party! BEST. DAY. EVER. 🥳🥳🥳🥳

We were so heartbroken to hear the tragic news of tWitch's recent passing, and his story is a reminder that we must check on our loved ones - even the ones who appear happy and strong. Did you know that each year, approximately 44 million American adults will experience a serious mental health condition, yet less than half will seek treatment? As humans, it is crucial that we find and develop healthy ways to cope and manage life's many challenges, but this isn't always easy. For varying reasons, people diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the increased likelihood of experiencing mental health challenges such as depression, OCD, and social anxiety, and are likely to be referred to, or seek support from a therapist. However, if a therapist does not have a good understanding of the neurodivergent mind, traditional talking therapies may be destined to fail, potentially leaving both the client and clinician frustrated. We are so lucky to have Ali Nyman on staff who is highly trained and experienced in working with individuals who have disabilities and mental health challenges. Our team is currently serving the entire US through Zoom sessions at reduced rates for community members. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you or someone you know can use support.
