“This month, we will celebrate the work of our local Meals on Wheels Shoals program. Having been in existence and providing daily meals since 1974, we estimate over 3 Million meals have been delivered during that time to our home bound and disabled neighbors in the Shoals.”

“Throughout the month of March, we honor people like you who make the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross possible — the individuals across the country who turn compassion into action, helping others in times of crisis. Our Red Cross Month celebration has been an annual tradition since 1943, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first Red Cross Month proclamation.”

“When Phil and Shar Roos heard about the tornado damage at Joe Wheeler State Park, they pointed their recreational vehicle that way.

The Rooses, who created a movement called “A Year to Volunteer,” headed to the park where they and fellow RVers provided help with renovations and repairs.

Now they have a YouTube channel and a page to help organize a larger number of volunteers for larger projects.

Their YouTube channel is:
youtube.com/ayeartovolunteer.

The organization has done about a dozen projects and collected more than 12,500 volunteer hours, Phil Roos said.”

Volunteer Spotlight ❄️

As many of you know, Room in the Inn Shoals is a homeless shelter open each winter. They partner with churches and organizations to provide food and shelter to the homeless population throughout our community.

“I’m very thankful to the ragtag crew of volunteers who’ve been hanging the last 4 days in a row! A special shout out to Sam, Julianna, Betsy, Kaitlyn, Terrance and Sarah for all their amazing hard work - including staying up all night, driving on the ice, making countless pots of coffee, prepping many meals, impromptu hair cuts, and lots of love. As hard as the last few days have been, we have laughed a lot and made some neat and interesting memories.” - Room in the Inn Shoals via Facebook

Thank you Sam, Julianna, Betsy, Kaitlyn, Terrance and Sarah for all you’re doing to make difference!

The goal of Hands on Shoals, an initiative started by the Shoals Nonprofit Center, is to help connect willing volunteers to organizations throughout the Shoals area.

We hope to become a hub that will help source volunteers for organizations in need. We’re building an online community of willing volunteers in the Shoals area looking to make a difference in their communities. As organizations have volunteer needs arise, we’ll post the opportunity on our social media accounts so that volunteers have direct access to those needs.

Our vision is for the Shoals area to never have a need go unmet. We are eager to make an impact and with your help we know that we can make a difference.
