Know the difference:

• Gold Plated •
A tiny layer of gold is applied over a base metal. The amount of real gold used is so little that it is considered unmeasurable (> .05%). This plating usually wear off fairly quickly. When that happens, the base metal will come into contact with the skin and cause irritation.
• Gold-filled •
Layers of solid gold sheets (12K, 14K, or 18K) are adhered around a base metal. Unlike gold-plated jewellery, gold-filled jewellery contains a measurable amount of gold and does not tarnish, chip or peel. Your skin will not come into contact with the base metal, making it safe even for those with sensitive skin.
