Met veel plezier stort ik me al een paar dagen op de muziek van Elvis Costello. De arrangementen van Yves Meersschaert zijn betoverend en de vertolking van Mich Walschaerts als steeds poëtisch, aangrijpend, grappig en ontroerend tegelijk. Woensdag en donderdag op de Gentse Feesten. (NTGent) Wat een beleving, en wat een belevenis. Komt af, komt af!

Huiswaarts na een fijne maar te korte vakantie. Wel met spannende vooruitzichten:
21/7: concert met KHSC Zele in Dinant. 25 en 26/7 mag ik Room 13 orchestra dirigeren op de Gentse feesten in het Costello project van Mich Walschaerts en Yves Meersschaert. (NT Gent)
3/8 Gastdirigent bij Claribel Clarinet Choir in Dublin (International Clarinet Conference) Sonata in Tango Form met Robert Spring en Ionas Mercadal als onuitgegeven solistenduo.

Flying home after a (very) short holiday. Next on: 4 summer concerts:
21/7: Dinant. KHSC Zele, concert for the Belgian National Holiday.
24-25/7: Gent: Room 13 orchestra feat. Mich Walschaerts, Costello (NTGent, Gentse Feesten)
3/8: Dublin: ICA clarinet conference: Claribel Clarinet Choir feat. Bob Spring and Ionas Mercadal: Sonata in Tango form

Giro d’Italia quinta tappa 5th stage . 21.04.24 Rovereto-Bergamo-Châtillon. Final ISEB course of the season, followed by closing ceremony. Than transfer to the Alps of Val d’Aosta. Preparing for the mountain stages.

Chers amis de l'harmonie des Petits Landes. Aujourd'hui je partage votre choque, vos larmes et votre tristesse. Je suis touché au fond du cœur en apprenant la perte de ce jeunhomme, si sympa et talentueux. Je me casse la tête avec vous, comment cela a été possible. La vie n'est pas honnête, il nous semble de nouveau. Soyez forts, prenez soin, l'un de l'autre, offrez vos épaules à ceux qui en ont besoin. Je tiens a condoler les parents et toute la famille, les potes de la percussion, tous les amis de l'harmonie, Sylvie, et Lucas, son prof toujours si fier de lui, et avec raison. Rempliez vos jours avec encore plus d'amour et encore plus de musique.
Pour toujours dans nos cœurs, que son âme repose en paix!

Flying to Valencia today to pay tribute to and celebrate the life and work of my good friend and mentor Henrie Adams. Henrie left us last year. His legacy to the Spanish band music is nothing less than epic in terms of being a ‘before’ and ‘since’. In my personal life and career the same can be said. Henrie conducted my first recorded piece with the Belgian Guides in 2007, wich opened totally new paths to me. After that he would always support me, always be ready for a chat on the phone, filling me we tons of advice. Anytime we met in person, we had a lot of beers together, sometimes paired with the best roasted lamb at Venta Pilar in Buñol. At these occasions he was always generously sharing his philosophical insights, his musical experience, his great sense of humor and his too big human warmth. I could write a book about it (if I could write a book at all).
Tonight the batons are in the hands of Teo Aparicio Barberán, Johan De Meij, Bram Sniekers, Manuel Godoy and Ángel Crespo, conducting Valencia Pro Winds. All maestri I wouldn’t have had the pleasure to call my friends without the link between all of us:El maestrissimo Henrie Adams.

Heading home after another stay in my beloved Landes de Gascogne. This time for the world premiere of my new piece Aygue ardente, about the production and consumption of Armagnac with ‘harmonie la Mayoral’, conducted by Guillaume Nail. Never did I have so much pleasure on research before (and even more after) composing a piece. Of course Aygue Ardente will be published by Minor Scale Music (grade 3) to be expected september 2023.
