💯 A real talk approach to Diversity, Equity

19/09/2022

I have to believe that I am not the only person that is working through a tough season.

With September being awareness month, I’ve read a lot of posts and articles on how to create mindfulness, tips to help combat burnout, the importance of taking time to do the things you love, etc.

While we should absolutely be intentional about creating balance and peace in our lives, in the words of my good friend Alphonso Jordan, “life be lifing” and sometimes sh*t is just too much. (Can I get an amen!?)

That said…

It is ok to (safely) give yourself the time and space to fall apart.

We often talk about within the context of , but it doesn’t just mean showing up as your true self. It means giving yourself the grace to be true to the circumstances that you are in.

This does not make you weak. Being real is not an indicator that you lack strength.

Gail Fottrell-Jones, SPHR and Brandon Obie, two beautiful people that I’m blessed to have in my sphere, recently reminded me that “your mess is in your message.” ❤️

It’s not all for nothin’.

I am SUPER honored and excited to be a feautured speaker at WIFS National’s annual conference this year!

This year’s theme, "Rise up! BE THE CHANGE!" is and very timely to the season I find myself in.

I look forward to connecting with some incredible people, learning from some of the best in the biz, and using my story to share tips on how to “rise up” as your authentic self.

I certainly don’t have all the answers, but at the conference, we’re gonna get real and we’ll grow alongside each other!🦸🏽💃🏽

Lucky for you, there is still time to register! 👇🏿👇🏾👇🏽👇🏼👇🏻

They say a picture says 1000 words. I think headshots definitely do!

As a triple minority in the field of finance and insurance, I haven’t always felt like I belonged. Showing up as an authentic professional has been a journey, and candidly, it’s one that I’m still on.

THE YOUNG WOMAN ON THE FIRST SLIDE:

- 1st professional photo ever taken 📷

- Had a strong voice, but little confidence in using it 😬

- Unknowingly shapeshifted pieces of herself to fit into spaces that didn't align with her value🤦🏽‍♀️👽

- Searched high and low for her purpose 🕵🏽‍♀️🔍

- Looked in other people's mirrors and expected to see her own reflection 🪞👀

- Oftentimes believed the lies of 😖

THE YOUNG WOMAN ON THE SECOND SLIDE:

- 2nd professional photo taken 📸

- Uses her voice constantly🗣📢, not just for herself, and lifts as she climbs 💪🏽

- Vibrantly and unapologetically lives in her magic 💃🏽 🪄- the things that make her different from everyone else - All. The. Time!🍾💋

- Walks in her purpose every day 👠, is clear on her nonnegotiables, knows her value, and isn't afraid to say NO❌🙅🏽‍♀️!

- Smashes mirrors...and ceilings 🔨💥

- Still struggles with bouts of imposter syndrome but gets after it anyways💁🏽‍♀️🙌🏾
