Aircrew with the 40th Helicopter Squadron conducted underwater egress training in the base pool to simulate a helicopter crash into water and practice safe egress in a disorienting situation.
The training, required every three years, is essential for placing aircrew in an environment where psychological and physiological pressure is great. Using the shallow water egress trainer chair (that cage they're in), the aircrew members practiced multiple scenarios with and without sight and oxygen.

The Vermont Air National Guard celebrated the 1st anniversary of a State Partnership Program between Austria and Vermont.
The ceremony celebrated the strong bonds between Austria and Vermont, and marked the first time American F-35s landed at and trained with the Austrian Air Force.
Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall hosted the 2nd Annual Department of the Air Force Juneteenth Celebration at the Pentagon, June 20. DAF joined our Nation in commemorating the delayed end of slavery in the US where the last enslaved Black Americans were proclaimed free two-and-a-half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865. Itโs a reminder of our Nations promise to a life of freedom and a commitment to racial equity.
During the event, Secretary Kendall said, โToday, I'd like to talk about the unfinished journey, which weโre all part of, the story of American relationship to race, and how we are making progress toward a more just society but also how that journey is still incomplete. Juneteenth, a very recently created Federal holiday is part of that journey. It marks the day in which Americans found out that their period of enslavement have come to an endโฆThe fact of the creation of this relatively new federal holiday is a part of our journey.โ
