The indigenous people or the 'Lumads' are being harassed and abused by the government and large scale mining corporations. They are forcibly ousted from their own lands, experienced extrajudicial killings, and discrimination. Their rights are being violated. They don't deserve to be treated this way, they should also feel and experience the privileges that we're experiencing. And the situation got worse when the martial law was imposed in Mindanao, it made the things more complicated. Let's help them to face and win their battle. Let us help and support the Lumads because they don't deserve how they are being treated by our fellow Filipinos. Let's start helping the Lumads by signing this petitions.

"I hope our story reach more people and create solidarity in defense of our land, culture, and our rights as Lumad." -Bai Ellen, a member of Matigsalog Tribe from Bukidnon, Philippines

As the Lumad travel from their hometown to voice out the continuous harassment and violence against them, it is our role and responsibility to help those voices be heard, enough to shake and wake up the hearts of our fellow citizens.

The Lumad community deserve the rights that we all have - education, property, protection, and security. But what if the people who should be providing all of these are the same people who are stripping away everything from them?

No one deserves to wake up every single day living with fear knowing that anytime soon, something may happen with them. No one deserves to be in a situation where protecting and fighting means dying.

Help us support our valued tribes about what they are fighting for! It will never be too late to help them create the solidarity they are looking for!

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, ensure justice for those being crushed. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."
Proverbs 31: 8-9

As part of the Filipino community, the Lumad compromises of indigenous people in the southern Mindanao region of the Philippines. They are considered as the largest indigenous group in the Philippines. They are also considered as one of the poorest minority groups in the world. They are all being treated unfairly by the government and other large-scale mining corporations. They have been forced to leave their homes and they are constantly being told to give up their own lands for their own good. Their vulnerability has been worsened by the extension of martial law imposed in Mindanao by Duterte, who has called the island a “flashpoint for trouble” and atrocities by Islamist and communist rebels.

Let us all support the Lumad as they do not deserve this kind of treatment from us fellow Filipinos. We should all be helping and treating each other fairly despite our differences.

Our indigenous peoples, especially the Lumad community, continue to suffer from abuse and harassment. Their rights have been violated as they defended their ancestral lands. Many of them have been displaced, and their schools have been closed down.

Let us support them in any way that we can. With Etniko, buying handicrafts and donating school supplies can be a great help to the Lumad community.

Make a change by standing in solidarity with the Lumad people and other indigenous communities!

The Lumad are indigenous people in the southern Mindanao region of the Philippines. The term Lumad is short for Katawhang Lumad (Literally: “indigenous people”), a description officially adopted by delegates of the Lumad Mindanao Peoples Federation founding assembly on June 26, 1986. More than 700 Lumads were staying in Davao City on 2015 after they were displaced from Talaingod in Davao del Norte and Bukidnon after alleged government forces and the anti-communist paramilitary group Alamara occupied several villages. Human rights groups reported about cases of harassment, vilification and indiscriminate firing that caused massive fear among the Lumads.

Their human rights were violated after they were forced to leave their homes and some were killed after they resisted the government. We should know more about the indigenous people like the Lumads and how their human rights were violated. We can also help them rise from the hardships. You can sign petitions to help them protest.

The Lumads are a group of Non-Muslim Indigenous people in the southern Philippines. They are also the largest indigenous group in the Philippines. They suffer from discrimination and are considered as one of the poorest minority groups in the world. They do not have access to adequate and appropriate forms of social services like education and health. According to the United Nations State of the World's Indigenous Peoples, the Philippines is one of the countries that facilitated large-scale mining by foreign corporations and other destructive projects, displacing many Lumad communities from their ancestral lands. Other violations on their human rights include the destruction and burning down of schools, areal bombings, and use of school facilities for military operations.

We believe that the Lumads deserve to be protected and to be treated with respect. The rights of these people should be given importance. One of the laws made to protect them is the "Indigenous People Rights Act" (IPRA) made in 1997, which was made to protect the Indigenous People and their ancestral lands. As Dominican students, we want to contribute to the preservation and enrichment of our cultural heritage, traditions and values amidst the emerging global society.

If you find the urge in your heart to help even in little ways, you can spare a few minutes and sign this petition to help our cause to protect the lumads.
