IALA, Pink Armenia, GALAS Lgbtq+ Armenian Society, Entanik & National Association for Armenian Studies and Research - NAASR are proud to invite you to their virtual reading & gathering, Q***r Speculations. The event will take place on June 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM Pacific | 1:00 PM Eastern | 9:00 PM Armenia time. Free attendance. Learn more & register here: bit.ly/45efVkp

As we speculate about the future of the Q***r Armenian community, what possibilities are before us? How can we use speculative fiction to imagine and reimagine those possibilities? In this event, authors Kristin Anahit Cass and Jacob Budenz will discuss how they have used speculative fiction to reflect on the present and illuminate future q***r potentialities. Cass will read from her new book Reparations of the Heart: Toward a Swana Futurity and Budenz will read from his new book Tea Leaves. The conversation will be moderated by J.P. Der Boghossian, host of the podcast This Q***r Book Saved My Life (2024 GLAAD media award nominee).

The event will also feature special guest Brent Love, who will read from his newly released memoir Leap. In this groundbreaking memoir, Love recounts coming out to his family two days before beginning a two-year Peace Corps assignment in Armenia. The book is a meditation on family and identity, set throughout Armenia and its q***r scene.

The discussion will be followed by a “social hour,” to offer Q***r Armenians around the world a space to connect and share experiences.

This event is funded in part by Poets & Writers with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

QPaP Seminar sign up 17/01/2024

Q***r Populations and Policies Network (QPaP) Seminar
January 25th 2024 4-5pm (UK time). Free.

LGBTQ+, or q***r, history is often described as a hidden or forbidden history, and if we accept these definitions as true, how then do we find that which is hidden?

It has been necessary to develop complex research strategies that enable researchers to look in unlikely places, to read between the lines, to find positives in negatives, and to place millions of people back into the mainstream narrative instead of leaving them on the q***r shelf. Indeed, so successful have these strategies been that they are now being used to re-examine other histories such as minority ethnic history. This talk highlights some of those methodologies.

ICoHM member Norena Shopland is an author/historian specialising in LGBTQ+ history, Welsh women’s history, and research methodologies.
