Curing Ulcerative Colitis

Dr. Pravda has spent the past two decades researching ulcerative colitis and developing a cure that has already healed several patients.

This page is intended to showcase Dr. Pravda’s findings and connect with ulcerative colitis patients. Twenty years ago I embarked on a quest to find the cause and cure for ulcerative colitis (UC). I had a simple motivation to help someone who was suffering from this horrible disease. All the books I had read said the same thing; ulcerative colitis was due to some vague, ill-defined, and incurable

immune abnormality that had not been identified despite over half a century of extensive research. As a clinical immunologist, I could find no convincing evidence to substantiate this claim. If the immune system suddenly decides to attack the large intestine, how could the cause remain hidden for so long and completely impervious to all our sophisticated modern technology? Furthermore, the available studies showed that individuals with UC had normal immune responses. Five years after I began my research, in 2005, I published a paper with what I believed was the cause of UC. All the data I could find pointed to ulcerative colitis being caused by too much hydrogen peroxide in the cells that make up the inner lining of the large intestine. Two years later, the first of two independent studies validating my theory was published. Armed with this confirming data, I developed a novel treatment to reduce the excess hydrogen peroxide in the large intestine, which was highly effective at inducing remission even in individuals whose disease was unresponsive to all conventional medication. One patient was kind enough to share the results of his colonoscopy, which was completely normal 12 years after receiving this new therapy in 2007, and he continues to do well to this day. The data indicate that ulcerative colitis is curable but the potential disruption caused by a cure makes it very difficult for this type of treatment to become a reality. And so I have concluded that if we are to cure ulcerative colitis, the people with this condition and their families will need to form an independent research foundation and move forward on their own. Only when you control your own destiny can we be assured that no stone is left unturned in the search for a cure. In this recently published paper, I discuss the evidence-based pathogenesis, treatment and predicted mechanism that leads to indefinite remission in ulcerative colitis which, for all intents and purposes, represents a cure for this disease. I also include a treatment section detailing the therapeutic agents that can accomplish these goals and the mechanism by which they do so.
