Great meeting Elmo Tempel, Laila Kaasik and Mihkel Pajusalu of Tartu Observatory this afternoon. All three are working on future projects that range well beyond Estonia's borders and should have great impact on both astrobiology and astronomy. Thanks to the three for their time today.

As a child of the Cold War, it was also fascinating to hear that Tartu Observatory was once quite active in designing equipment and instruments for Soviet-era space missions. Although I have visited Eastern bloc countries both before and after the demise of the Iron Curtain, this trip marks the first time I've ever set foot in a former Soviet republic. It's heartening to see first hand that some thirty plus years after the fall of the Soviet Union, Estonia is thriving and at the forefront of space technology research.
