In this clip, Leslie Gaar talks about the importance of knowing when to take initiative and shoot your shot! In 2020, Leslie had the opportunity to push aside the little voice we all have that tells us we should wait for opportunity, you know that bitch. “Don’t be pushy, don’t bother them, don’t think they want to hear from you.” Leslie reached out to a contact she had at The Jim Henson Company and presented them with her initial plans for “Henson at Home,” a campaign that ended up running for nine months and helped many parents keep their young children entertained while trapped at home, because pandemic.

In this week’s episode, I tell y’all about the time I was a background actor in Alita: Battle Angel. Listen to the full episode to hear more about my experience with motion capture, and subscribe to Can I Bother You wherever you get your podcasts!
I had a good time working on Alita, despite my cute butt not being visible.
I’m mixing it up a bit this week and bringing you a solo, AJ-centric episode! It’s just you and me, listeners, and I’m telling you all about the time I was part-cyborg. Check out my cyborg legs, and tune in to tomorrow’s episode of Can I Bother You to hear stories from my time as a background actor on Alita: Battle Angel! Subscribe to Can I Bother You wherever you get your podcasts so you don’t miss the episode.
P.B. I wasn’t trying to call you stupid by circling myself in the photos. I felt like I had to make myself as clearly visible as possible because “obvious” is kind of my brand. It’s why I introduce myself to hot men with, “Hi, I love you and it’ll never work.”
Adam Roberts Voice and I collaborated on a conversation about collaboration, and talked about why actors feel like they need permission. In our full talk, you can hear more about Adam and his process as a director, and how he collaborated with others to create TILT Performance Group and Resolution Creative. Listen to Can I Bother You wherever you get your podcasts!
We’re talking to Adam Roberts this week! A quick, broad, and by no means exhaustive list of what Adam does: He’s a vocal coach, music director, writer, choreographer, and director. Adam is one of my favorite people that I barely know, so I was very excited to have this conversation.
We talk about TILT Performance Group, a non-profit theatre company that Adam co-founded, which produces original works with a focus on stories about people with disabilities. This episode also has a bit of our origin story, the reason why Adam teaches through SO many different institutions, and plenty of metaphors about collaboration. Adam is smart, skilled, and willing to share his knowledge, so listen to the episode wherever you get your podcasts!
Ricky is v wise, y’all. In this week’s episode, he educates me a bit on what a graphic designer does, we talk about the time he co-founded a music promotions company, and we geek out over spreadsheets and organizational apps. Listen to this full episode of CIBY wherever you get your podcasts!

In Can I Bother You’s most recent episode, I talk to Annameekee Hesik, author of “The You Know Who Girls.” You can hear more about her 7-year journey to get the first book in the series published wherever you get your podcasts!
“The You Know Who Girls: Freshman Year,” follows Abbey Brooks as she navigates her way through her crush on the flirty Hot Dog on a Stick Chick, and joins the (allegedly very le***an) basketball team at her high school. You can find both “Freshman Year” and “Driving Lessons: A You Know Who Girls Novel” through most major book sellers. And you can subscribe to Can I Bother You on your favorite podcatcher so you don't miss an episode!
This is the first time an episode of Can I Bother You will be late. I'm postponing it a full week. It's not ready and I'm exhausted. I need to be more kind to myself, so I'm gonna let myself miss this one. Thank you. I hope you're well. Drink water!
On Tuesday 3/1, you can hear me and Annameekee Hesik talk about the 7-year-long process of getting her le***an YA novel, “The You Know Who Girls: Freshman Year,” published. Listen wherever you get your podcasts!
Annameekee has been a teacher for over 20 years, and a lover of Buffy and mocha shakes for even longer than that. We talk about teaching during the pandemic, hearing from strangers about your work, and how quickly your work can be dated, but it’s not our fault that 90’s hip hop still bangs. Annameekee’s books, ”The You Know Who Girls: Freshman Year,” and “Driving Lessons: A You Know Who Girls Novel” are available through most major book sellers!

You can hear Donna Rice and I talk about actor/crew rivalries and our experiences as improv TAs on Tuesday, wherever you get your podcasts!
Donna is an actor, improviser, production assistant, and for the past two years, she’s also been a COVID compliance officer on film productions around Austin. In this episode we talk about what it was like returning to film and television sets during the pandemic, what a COVID production manager does, and how she snapped her fingers at me because I bored her with a cartwheel.

I was so glad to hear that Anne doesn’t outline. I don’t usually outline either, and I’ve felt like a freak (in the bad way) because I’ve heard so many writers and teachers talk about the importance of outlining. You can hear more insight from Anne about writing on this week’s episode of Can I Bother You. Listen wherever you get your podcasts!
In addition to talking about Who’s Running the Show, an audio drama that Anne writes and stars in (and that I co-star in), we also talk a bit about how Anne transitioned from being an actor, to working in a career that allowed her to retire in her 30s, to returning to acting and finding her skill and love for writing.
Anne Boyd has recently added “Podcast Producer” to her already long resume, with her scripted podcast, “Who’s Running the Show?”. You can find “Who’s Running the Show?” (in which Anne plays the protagonist and I play the antagonist) on all major podcasting platforms! And this Tuesday, you can hear me and Anne talk about making the show, and how she transitioned from working in management information systems to writing and creating. Subscribe to CIBY wherever you get your podcasts so you don’t miss the episode!
You can hear more about the impact and importance of adaptive sensory performances in this week’s episode of Can I Bother You. Listen wherever you get your podcasts!
Jessie Drollette is the production manager at The Georgetown Palace Theatre, which is the place we’re talking about in this clip and also the place where we met! We actually start the episode by reminiscing about and lamenting the clopening of our production of Sweet Charity, one of the OG COVID cancellations. You’ll also hear about the multiple meanings of the pineapple; racism, ableism, and sizeism; and why you should panic sooner rather than later. Listen and then tell your friends about the beauty of this episode.
On Tuesday, you can hear me and Jessie Drollette (she/her) talk about the importance of theatre education, the need for inclusive theatre/adaptive sensory performances, and why aggressive-aggression is better than passive-aggression. Subscribe to Can I Bother You wherever you get your podcasts so you don’t miss the episode!
In episode 4, Pamela Paek showed me her fantastic glasses that I’m now madly in love with. I had no idea magnetic glasses with customizable frames were a thing. I’m due for new glasses, so this was well-timed. Neither of us is getting paid to endorse Pair Eyewear, we’re both just really into them. If you want your own pair, you can get them at paireyewear.com.
And you can hear the full episode with Pamela Paek wherever you get your podcasts!
