The Mind Is A Terrible Thing

The Mind Is A Terrible Thing is a Las Piñas-based indie rock trio that draws inspiration from 90s and early 2000s emo and indie acts. Initially conceived as a solo project back in 2010, the band is comprised of Rhys Trillanes (guitar/vocals), Ralph Gonzales (bass/vocals), and Jan Nery (drums).

Their sound can be characterized by clean, twinkly, fingerpicked guitar melodies and emotional, anthemic vocal delivery reminiscent of acts like American Football, Owen, Mineral, Penfold, Into It Over It, and Death Cab for Cutie (specifically their albums pre-Transatlanticism). Lyrically, the band's songs center around the themes of repressed memories, failed friendships, youth, and heartbreak. In layman's terms, this project is about the people and things we lose and find in life.

To date, the band has released two EPs: VJAND (2012) and Welcome to the Monkey House (2015), as well as a full-length album entitled Mother Night (2019).
