CMW Inspired Furniture

I had a pleasant surprise this morning! Kathy Kaknes The owner of Starlet who just happens to be the profile picture for CMW Inspired Furniture reached out to get some information on her. This was the second piece we had sold at Black Dog Salvage in July of 2022. I was able to recover one picture of Starlet before the transformation. Unfortunately I had to replace a phone and most of my pictures didn't transfer over. This dresser is a 1950s Drexel that had been moved out to someone's carport and it's next stop was the curb for city pickup. Really bad cracks in the drawers, deep scratches on the side panels, crazy water stains on the top, and wobbly overall structure made it the perfect candidate for CMW Inspired Furniture. After re-glued pieces, automotive body filler to fix all the scratches and cracks, and alot of sanding I was able to save this Beautiful Dresser and give life once again. The top was stained gunstock 223 and painted with my favorite color Roanoke Rain from the Black Dog Salvage Furniture Paint line. I usually buff the drawer pulls to maintain its original look but the pulls were too far gone for polish so they were painted a Brass Gold mixture. I often pick pieces that can only be saved by painting them and highlight as much of the original wood as possible. I do restore pieces completely without painting them if they're in good shape, but the painted pieces brings out the artist in me and plus is fun to see a piece take on a whole new life. I'm glad Starlet found her person and her forever home!!!

Let's do a break down of what one of my pieces go through to get where they are. This particular dresser was named Dotty. She has been in an outdoor shed exposed to the elements for over 30 years. I only take on these projects to keep them from the landfills because that's where she was headed to. Unfortunately the only salvageable parts were the two top drawers and the top. The side panels were full of rot and the two lower drawers were beyond repair so I used automotive body filler to fix the drawers and front legs.The side panels were replaced and also filled in with body filler. These old dressers are beautiful pieces when they're in great shape because most of them are made of some type of Tiger Oak. Unfortunately this one had been abused and her age showed it but it still had life in her. I picked the color to cheer the piece up since it had such a dark past. It's not everyone's taste and that's OK as long as Dotty is not in a landfill its a win. She is for sale at Black Dog Salvage. Stop by and see all of the other Artist's beautiful works.

A close family friend who's more family than friend dropped this telephone table off to get the CMW Inspired Furniture treatment. This little table resides at her work office. SOLD!!! Latest project almost done. Just got to apply more poly and polish the pull a little bit more. This piece was really rough and I can't find the before photos But stay tuned for the finished product.

Here's the new project! Mid-Century Modern Side Table. These are very nice tables because they are made of solid Mahogany but most of them have false drawer fronts. I like to deconstruct them, use the original front and build a simple drawer for storage and add casters to the legs and a unique drawer pull and now you have a useful solid Mahogany table.
